Make This Your Bookish Go-To Gift Guide

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you might be scrambling to find a gift for that special reader in your life. Gifting books might seem like an easy solution, but without knowing what genre they enjoy, or which author is their favorite, you run the risk of getting them something they’ve already got on their shelves. So, I’ve put together a short list of gifts that all book lovers can enjoy!

1. Literary Coffee Mugs

What better way to compliment a good book than with a warm cup of coffee or tea? Barnes and Noble has a great selection of literary mugs to gift your bibliophile, including this adorable mug ringed with literary classics from Riffle Paper Co.

2. Cozy Blankets and Knitted Socks

It’s a well-known fact that readers love to be cozy, especially on those wintry days when only a good book and something snuggly will keep us warm! Knitted socks are perfect for the bibliophiles with cold toes (make sure to grab nonslip kind like these from Bombas!) and a crocheted throw to wrap around them when the book is getting particularly good! Here’s a pretty (and affordable!) one I found from Walmart.

3. Candles

Blankets, coffee, what are we missing? Oh yes, candles! Your bibliophile is sure to get a kick out of these adorable literary candles from Paddywax. The selections vary by scent and classic author, like the Edgar Allan Poe cardamom, absinthe, and sandalwood scent, to the Charlotte Bronte rosewood, peony, and patchouli (my personal favorite).

4. Unique Bookmarks

Readers always have a ton of bookmarks, so get them something they’ll love as much as their next favorite book! These handmade, pressed floral bookmarks from Kayliereads on Etsy are beautiful! Sure to impress your lovely Reader, and are perfectly Instagrammable, too!

5. Personal Library Kit

Bibliophiles love to lend out their favorite books, but sometimes we need a little help remembering just who we lent our treasures to! This adorable library kit from Knock Knock includes 20 self-adhesive pockets and card catalog checkout cards / bookplates, date stamp, inkpad and pencil.

6. Ask A Bookseller!

I’m a bibliophile and a writer, but I’m also a bookseller! Whether I’m excitedly expounding on my new favorite read, or shooting titles back and forth with my fellow booksellers to find that exact book for our guests (“It was red! With an eye!”), there isn’t a book, or a book related gift we can’t find for you! Indie bookstores are best; small, well-curated shops will have everything you need for your book lover, and you might even find something for yourself!

In California, I recommend: The Last Bookstore (Los Angeles), SideShow Books (Los Angeles), Tia Chuchas (Sylmar), Cafe Con Libros (Pomona), Village Well Books and Coffee (Culver City), Medicine for Nightmares (San Francisco), and Sour Cherry Comics (San Francisco).
