Romney has decided not to run for reelection.

Although Republican Senator Mitt Romney of Utah has announced that he will not run for reelection and he does not have to be concerned that Trump will be campaigning against him, he does continue to incur the wrath of Trump.

Romney has not been afraid to speak out against Trump. He has now said that almost any other Republican and any Democrat would be better than Trump.

A story by Nick Robertson in The Hill had the title: “Romney says any Democrat would be ‘an upgrade’ over Trump in 2024.”

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) signaled that nearly any candidate in the 2024 field, of either party, would be an “upgrade” over another term for former President Trump.

“I’d be happy to support virtually any one of the Republicans — maybe not Vivek [Ramaswamy] — but the others that are running would be acceptable to me, and I’d be happy to vote for them,” the retiring senator said Friday in an interview with CBS’s Norah O’Donnell.

“I’d be happy to vote for a number of the Democrats too,” he continued. “It would be an upgrade, in my opinion, from Donald Trump and perhaps also from Joe Biden.”

Romney indicated that he is not in favor of Biden either. Age may be a factor. He cited his own age of 76 as a reason for his retirement. Romney is a multi-millionaire and does not need that aggravation.

Being a former Republican nominee for President of the United States, Romney is no newcomer to politics. He was a governor of Massachusetts. He decided to run for the U.S. Senate in Utah, which he won. He will retire after one term in that office.

Trump wrote about Romney after the announcement that he would not seek reelection: “Mitt Romney, sometimes referred to as Pierre Delecto, will not be seeking a second term in the U.S. Senate, where he did not serve with distinction.” That name was a pseudonym Romney used for a private Twitter account.

Since Trump is known to go after his critics with a vengeance, Romney is one of the biggest targets along with others such as Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, and Adam Schiff. Trump seems to be good at bullying and making enemies.

Romney voted twice to impeach Trump and has continuously said that Trump is a danger to the country. He has lost supporters and faced ridicule from some Republicans because of his outspoken criticism of Trump.
