US Citizens Are Leaving The US In Droves. Here’s Why Many American Citizens Are Ditching America & Becoming Expats.

Is The American Dream Dead?

It was one of those cold and dreary mornings. Those ones where I struggled to haul myself out of bed.

I lay there helplessly, like a frozen chicken waiting to defrost for dinner. Winter had arrested me once again.

Everyone told me — “you’ll get used to it, eventually.

But I never did. Winters were always brutal to me.

On that particular winter morning in 2020, I woke up and decided I needed to change my reality.

I needed to leave America!

I don’t know if it was a realization, a thought, a hunch, or a feeling. But it was a primal urge. Raw and instinctive.

It felt like I was caught in a fight or flight moment.

A moment where I needed to run to save my life because the BEAST I was up against, was far too large and powerful to stay to fight.

I needed to leave America.

That morning, I wrote in my journal —

“I’m stuck in this nightmare called the American dream.

I’m having sleep paralysis. Shaking…yet stuck!

Struggling to wake up from this treacherous dream

It feels really cold & lonely here. Cold metals and hot concrete.

Artificial, everything! Everything is TOXIC!

The air, filled with chem-trails

The water, filled with chemicals

The land, filled with toxins

The water bodies, filled with mercury

The plants, coated in pesticides

The animals, filled with antibiotics

Black blood, spilling in the streets

Oh what a dream.

The American Dream!

Fuck this ‘progressive’ dream

I’m forever anxious in this dream state.

It feels like I was sold a dream

A dream that came with so much debt

Never affording you true, lasting happiness

Pimping consumerism. Powered by sugar.

I’m stuck in a rat race. Running..Running..Running

To make a dollar

Just so Uncle Sam can holla

Shit! I stay working for more zeros

So maybe I can be some type of hero.

So maybe I can buy some more stuff to fill this void ?

What am I doing in this dream?

Somebody, please wake me up! Because this can’t be real life….

Fuck the American dream!

Death to the American Dream!

Writing it felt cathartic.

It was the day I buried my American Dream.

Immediately, I started to make plans to leave the country. I needed to give myself a chance at survival. A chance at living.

In my research on where to go next, I discovered a silent exodus happening.

People were slowly leaving America.

They left for Thailand, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Portugal, Italy, Ecuador, etc. They left to explore alternative lifestyles in other parts of the world.

I discovered —

“10,000 U.S. passports expected to be dumped this year and another 23% of American expats — about 2 million people — saying they are “seriously considering” renouncing citizenship, unbecoming American is starting to sound as American as apple pie.” — US News & World Report

More and more Americans were not only leaving America, but they were also ditching their citizenship. A precious thing many immigrants willingly sacrifice their lives for, daily.

Here’s Why Many American Citizens May Be Ditching America:

Debt

America runs on debt.

You have to have debt, in order to be in good credit standing.

I know, it sounds counterintuitive! But it’s just how the system runs.

Although there’s “good debt” and “bad debt”. For many, the lines are blurry.

As ‘good debt’ can easily become bad debt, once you encounter a slight economic challenge.

The daunting reality is — many Americans are drowning in crippling debt. Living from paycheck to paycheck. From credit card to credit card.

Many Americans are starting to look for an alternative way of living. And they’re starting to look outside the “land of milk and honey”.

Expensive Health Care & Health Insurance

Healthcare is expensive in America.

Although, the quality of healthcare is far advanced and of a higher standard than many parts of world, many ageing Americans on retirement and living on social security are opting to live in devoloping countries, where their dollars go a longer way.

They want access to affordable healthcare and health insurance for their ageing bodies.

If you’re American it’s no secret that suffering from an illnesses is enough to wipe out your entire life savings, and cause unforseen economic hardship.

With the rise of medical tourism, more and more Americans are opting for healthcare, including surgery, outside the country.

Rising Cost Of Living

Inflation is fast rising.

The cost of living, food and rent are going up exponentially.

Although, this is happening around in the world in varying degrees. In America, the pressure of fast rising costs seem to be unbearable for young and older americans, alike.

This is causing many Americans to consider moving to “cheaper” and more “affordable” countries.

Racism & Racial Tensions

America was built on racial inequality and racial tension. It’s the ethos of the land.

Honestly, I didn’t understand how racism worked, until I lived in America for 11 years.

I was shocked to discover racism had been seamlessly woven into every system and institution within the country.

There’s no escaping racism if you’re black in America, even if you’re rich.

Because of racism, many Black Americans are considering moving to places where they’re treated as humans first, before they’re treated as ‘black people’.

They want the freedom to exist and live without the feeling of having a target on their backs.

Many other’s are also exhausted by political parties stoking racial fires with psyops, and divisive racial narratives.

Taxes

Some Americans, especially wealthy Americans, are looking to protect their wealth from the government & IRS.

They’re looking for cheaper alternatives to paying higer taxes.

For some, leaving America and renouncing their citizenship can give them that.
