Updating Publisher’s Spotlight Always Inspires My Creativity
When I check what you have been submitting over there, it is always inspiring to me.
When I’m not feeling super creative, I find that working on my WordPress blogs — updating their looks, getting into the CSS to tweak the design, and just experimenting — inspires me to write again.
I turned the comments on for one of my blogs that had been more of a static web page design for a while. I never know who will leave a comment, but it is always fun to get a response to something as long as it isn’t spammy.
I love posting here because of the community. But, there is something exciting about posting on a stand alone blog. It feels like setting off on a journey into the wilderness and blazing the path.
I guess it felt like that when I started blogging here, so maybe it is the novelty factor of creating something new and seeing where it ends up going in the world.
The nice thing about my WordPress blogs is that I don’t feel like I have to write any particular length. I need to figure out what my goal is for one of the blogs. It might be my place to jot down thoughts that can be further developed here.

Sometimes I feel the pressure to produce something perfect here because I know people will come across it. Sooner or later, someone might come across something outside of the walled garden this place is. I hope so, but it is nice to know that it might just be like a little note placed in a bottle and sent out into the ocean never to be seen again.
It feels nice to have a little place to just start ideas and see where they might go. Or, just say what is on my mind in a sentence or two. Somehow, it seems like it is better to write the longer and more polished content here. At least since it has the possibility of being curated.
Out on my own blog, it just has to be what ever I want it to be.
Of course, I link back over here. And, Publisher’s Spotlight is still going strong and doing well for moving our stories here up in the search ranks. If you want to add your story to that blog, fill out the form and the server will auto post it after about five or ten minutes.

I use Publisher’s Spotlight as a way to read some great stories since it is a self-curated publication of what authors think is great to share.
The same is true for Illumination Amplifier. It is another way to get an illustrated look at the stories that are published around the clock on ILLUMINATION.
Another blog of mine that is an automated list of ILLUMINATION stories keeps up with what is going on here since it lists 75 stories at a time. I set it to keep a list of up to 100,000 stories, so one of these days, I might have to get into the settings and bump that number up to a million.
Since the ILLUMINATION feed just shows the title and author’s name, it shows the importance of having a great headline to stand out from the crowd.
I hope my visits from outside show up on your stats. I haven’t checked closely to see if my visit shows up as an outside visit or inside since I’m always logged in to this site when I click over.
Chris Hedges, B.A. (journalism and political science) and J.D. is an editor at ILLUMINATION, Red Curtain Erotica, and The Bad Influence. You can read my random thoughts here.
