Updates and Milestones

Life goes on…

The time has come. This week has been a major week of change for me, and as life goes on, I thought it’d be nice to provide you guys with an update on what exactly has been going on in my life.

Firstly, to address the COVID-19 situation. The dreaded virus has finally penetrated my state’s impenetrable wall, which all but seemed to shut out the pesky pandemic. Before this past month, we’ve not seen the state’s COVID numbers rise above 50 new cases a day… But now, that’s changed. The government’s lack of lockdown mandates has seemed to further the spread of the virus, rather than limit it. With cases exploding this past month, the frequency of change regarding government policy is honestly all too much to keep up with. While it is designed to keep us, the citizens, safe, the indecisiveness of the government has led to a tremendous impact on everyone, including me and my family.

The immediate knock-on effect has already been felt, as I, for safety reasons have decided to leave my job which, while not essential for my survival, has allowed me the luxuries, normally unattainable as a “broke university student.”

Speaking of university, the timely manner of the stricter restrictions placed on our everyday life has just so coincided with the beginning of a new semester — of the new year no less. While I know I’ll need to address the disruptions here in order to keep my own learning, now ever so reliant on self-directed education to be in check, this should allow more free time for me to dedicate to this platform. However, as you can imagine, this has yet again added an extra level of stress on top of the difficulties inherent in dealing with the pandemic. There is however a silver lining for me in the form of the Medium Partner Program.

Firstly, thank you to all who have pressed that follow button within the two weeks or so I’ve actively shared content on Medium. With your support, I have met the 100 follower requirement to enrol into the Program and (hopefully) start earning through my writing. This being said, I will still share content outside of the paywall for all to enjoy. The pieces I choose to share behind the paywall, will, therefore, be more personal in nature, giving you guys a deeper look into my mind and life. As well as this, I promise to keep delivering quality content, which will never change whether it be behind the paywall or not. I can’t believe that over 100 of you find value in my writing so much so that you’ve felt inspired to follow me. Thank you.

A final update on my schedule of posts: Because of university classes starting back up, the regularity of my posts will decrease dramatically. To ensure the content I share is of my own standards, I vowed to never rush my work. This means, while posts will not be as frequent, I will still be working each and every day to bring you guys a mix of well-researched and opinionated pieces. Initially wanting to stick to a specific number of posts a week, within my first week back as a full-time student this year, I’ve quickly realised that this promise will be a burden on me rather than a source of motivation, especially later on in the semester as assignments and exams start to ramp up. Alas, I will still share short-form, off-the-cuff thoughts in my series Random Ramblings or whatever else might I fancy. I hope you all understand and continue to support me, as changes and milestones seem to be flooding my life right now. I’ll leave you with a lesson I’ve taken from this past month:

Life goes on and on and on…

— That one annoying FIFA song, probably.

Hope you enjoyed this post!

If you did, all I ask is for some applause to show your appreciation. A comment too if you wish?

Finally, before I leave you, are you looking for a passionate writer with unique posts to fill your feed? Do these pieces pique your interest?

If you answered “yes,” please consider following me for more posts like these in the future! Want to know more? Click on my profile and go to my “About” section, or feel free to send me a message at any time!

Much appreciated,

Ning Choi
