Hotfix Is Released

Two bugfixes in Medium Distribution Info 3.0.1

The new version of Medium Distribution Info has just been released, and it’s already time to update it. Two bugs made their sneaky way to this release. One of them is particularly, so this release went live as soon as was humanly possible.

The extension has already updated, so no need bothering reading these bugs, unless you are curious to what went wrong. Make sure to download your data again if you used the Download feature.

Download information is incorrect.

Did you know that the getMonth-function of Javascript returns the month number to you? And did you know that some techhead decided it to be logical to have the months start at 0? That’s right. January is 0 and December is 11. No? Neither did I.

When you download your stats, you’ll notice that each date is a month off. That must make sense to maybe one person in the world at most. The rest of us, though. Well. This release is for you. In this release the first Month is 1. The sixth is 6 and the tenth is 10. Makes a lot more sense to me.

Download is incomplete if… #yolo

Both of the bugs were reported by Anthony Lawrence. He has the gift of spotting things. And he is able to write fun articles on technology. One of them has the funny title Isn’t It Exciting When an Icon Changes Color from #93411 to #93410?. Notice those hashtags (#)? Those broke the code.

After the code encounters a hashtag, it behaves as if it’s done. Your download stops right there. If you have a story with a hashtag in the title, some of your posts will be missing from your download-csv. I don’t think this is for everyone, but then again, I wouldn’t think it strange if you would use something like #love in the title.

I owe a big thanks to Anthony as he graciously accepted to go on a joint bug-hunting excursion. Without him, I would still be scratching my head as to the nature of the bug.

When Is the next update?

I have already uploaded the new version to the Google Chrome Store. They process it with some technowizardry and after that, it goes live automagically. It’s out of my hands now. It’s probably within a day or two. I have set the extension to open this page if it goes live. So, if you see this again, then you no longer need to worry about the bugs above and you can start downloading your information again.
