Unlock the Power of Now: Living Mindfully and Fearlessly

Photo by Fabian Møller on Unsplash

Contemplating the potential of who we could become is an alluring endeavor, a pathway paved with dreams and aspirations.

Yet, it’s the relentless grip of the past and the relentless reach of the future that often keep us from embracing life’s present moments.

Living presently ignites a sense of freedom that encourages us to lead mindful and fulfilling lives that keep us grounded emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

The thoughts

The struggle to decipher what my future held, whether it was ten years, five months, or even just two days from now, had been a recurring theme in my life.

Questions echoed in my mind:

Who was I destined to be?

Who will I become?

What is my purpose?

The ceaseless attempt to anticipate and agonize over the yet-to-unfold events weighed heavily on my mind.

Apart from that I further clouded my mind, living vicariously in the past.

I would revisit every painful moment, each feeling of regret, and those experiences I once believed would eternally define me.

My thoughts wandered so deep into this labyrinth that I lost myself entirely.

Lost in what I could have done differently.

Lost in who I wish I could have been.

Eventually, I found my way.

I was tired of living in fear of the “unknown”, and I was tired of reliving moments that were only deemed significant because I granted them that power.

Why we don’t live presently?

It’s hard to live actual life.

From moment to moment.

Many of us tend to live ahead of ourselves.

Physically experiencing but not mindfully present throughout the experience.

Living in the present moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift.

Oprah Winfrey

I have learned to enjoy life’s moments as presently as I can. Immersing myself in each moment mindfully.

Igniting all my senses and all my thoughts into the experience fully grasping its true essence.

Poetic, I know.

Embracing the present moment grants us the gift of peace of mind, one untethered from the weight of the past or the uncertainties of the future.

Society often influences our prevailing thoughts, encouraging us to dwell on past regrets or stress over future uncertainties.

It is an easy state of mind to fall into.

However, living presently offers a sanctuary of tranquility that we can find despite external pressures.

The goal is to recognize this and consciously make an effort to embrace the moments as they unfold.

Without expectations.

Without fear.

Without worry.

Without knowing.

The Hard Part

When you focus mindfully on your future you can choose to focus on things that will foster personal growth and nourish your soul.

We are building our future selves. Actively.

When you focus on your past, what are your thoughts?

Are you focused on the trauma? The pain, the hurt? The regret?

It’s crucial to consider how you present yourself in your own thoughts, as this can either bolster or hinder your ability to live in the present.

Your past can serve as a blueprint, a tool for addressing your traumas and learning from them.

It becomes a valuable resource if you allow it to be so.

You are your most profound teacher, shit life itself serves as the greatest instructor of all.

Learning from your past self means embracing the positive aspects and leaving behind what no longer serves you. As you continue to do this, you’re using your own life experiences to construct the foundation of your future.

How your house ends up is on you.

3 benefits of living presently

1. Less Anxiety

When you are consistently wrapped up in your thoughts it can intensify the stress associated with the uncertainties of the future, as well as the unease of trying to figure it out.

Living presently grants you freedom, allowing you to direct your attention to what’s within your control, all while preparing yourself thoughtfully for what lies ahead.

It gives you the ability to soothe your body and calm your mind — offering relief from the clutches of anxiety.

2. Emotional regulation

Embracing the present through mindful practices such as yoga and meditation equips you with the tools to manage and navigate your daily emotions.

This emotional stability serves as an anchor, keeping you firmly grounded.

By being emotionally balanced, you reduce the risk of becoming overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted.

This mindset diminishes our inclination to react impulsively to our emotions and, instead, encourages us to be proactive in how we handle them.

3. Balance

You discover a state of equilibrium where your past, present, and future harmonize.

You achieve the art of reminiscing about your past, fully embracing your current life, and thoughtfully envisioning your future.

The Power of Presence

Living presently gives you the will to deal with the circumstances of life, in its entirety.

My belief is that if I do my best and continue to work on myself, my future will be a result of that.

I am testimony to that thus far, with so much further to go.

Release the grip of fear that binds you to the past, for it remains there.

Your future, on the other hand, remains unwritten.

Your present, however, is yours.

Hone in on creating a present that becomes the past you look back fondly on and the future you aspire to achieve.
