Summary

The article contrasts the unity within the Republican Party, which is seen as a strategic move for political success, against the disunity within the Democratic Party, which is perceived as detrimental to their political objectives.

Abstract

The article titled "Unity Makes Strength… Only the Republican Party seems to understand this concept" discusses the importance of unity in political parties, particularly in the context of the recent National Conventions of the Republican and Democratic parties. It highlights that while the GOP convention showcased unity, the Democrats are grappling with internal conflicts. The origins of the phrase "Unity makes strength" are traced back to the Latin "Concordia res parvae crescunt," and its adoption by the Dutch Republic. The article argues that the Republican Party is successfully implementing this concept, focusing on long-term goals such as stacking courts with conservative judges and potentially controlling the Supreme Court, despite personal opinions about Trump. In contrast, the Democratic Party is depicted as struggling with internal division, with the progressive wing criticizing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and even attacking former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, when they attempted to unify the party. The article concludes by questioning whether the Democrats can overcome their divisions by the November elections.

  • The Republican Party is portrayed as understanding the value of unity for achieving political success.

  • There is a sense of urgency and concern that the Democrats may not resolve their internal conflicts before the November elections.

Unity brings success as far as political parties are concerned. It is an empowering notion that energises voters and party leaders.

We have recently seen two completely different National Conventions held by the Republican and Democratic parties.

Unity prevailed in the GOP convention.

In this article, my focus will first be on the origins of the term “Unity makes strength”. I will then discuss how this idea boost the Republican party and is ignored by the opposition.

The origins of Unity makes strength

The term is derived from the Latin phrase, Concordia res parvae crescunt which means small things flourish by concord.

The Dutch Republic adopted this motto from 1581 to 1810.

Brooklyn, the borough of New York City created by Dutch settlers has the phrase on its flag: “Een Draght Maekt Maght”.

Unity makes strength is easy to say but difficult to implement.

“We may have all come on different ships but we are on the same boat now.” (Martin Luther King Jr)

This quote from the marvellous Dr King should inspire every single person regardless of any political affiliations. Unfortunately, nobody wants to make any compromise.

This state of mind defines what is currently happening within the Democratic Party.

Division in the Democratic camp

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have called for unity but the progressive wing of the party hasn’t stopped attacking the two politicians.

Biden is viewed as too moderate and is often derided by the Far left. Harris has to deal with racist and sexist jibes from the people who invented the infamous “Kamala is a Cop”!

Why can’t there be a closed door meeting between all the fractions? What is the purpose of hurling public insults at your party leaders?

It is utterly astonishing to see the amount of negativity which surrounds the Dem ticket. Barack and Michelle Obama tried to talk some sense into the sceptics but they were in turn shamefully attacked.

A divided house brings agony and failure, the Republicans understand this point very well. Many hate Trump but their target is winning In November so they are staying quiet.

The Republicans are united

They are playing the long game as the goal is to stack courts with right leaning judges.

Trump is barely criticised by Republicans voters who truly believe they have a great chance of retaining the White House.

Once this is done, the ultimate prize will be the Supreme Court. Supporting Trump is just a means to an end, a way to potentially control the highest court of the land.

You can be certain that nothing will make Republican voters and politicians publicly criticise Trump.

Conclusion

In this article, I explained the origins of the motto Unity makes Strength, wrote about the tension within the Democratic Party and show why Republicans voters are supporting Trump.

Can Democrats get it together by November? One can only hope they do.
