United Kingdom experiences dangerously high temperatures

UK temperatures, as European heatwave builds, continue to set new records

Coningsby, Lincolnshire sees record high-temperature of 40.3 °C (104.5 °F). Temperatures over 40°C in the United Kingdom are historically unheard of throughout the British Isles.

“A new record UK temperature has been set at 40.3C in Coningsby in Lincolnshire, according to the Met Office,” tweeted Sky News.

Meanwhile, in the UK capital, the London Fire Brigade reports a “huge surge” in fires. Several Wennington homes have been reported destroyed. Wennington, situated on the outskirts of East London, has been experiencing historically feverish temperatures. No casualties have been reported.

Hertfordshire and Leicestershire fire services, responding to increased emergency callouts, have referenced several major incidents in recent days.

Interestingly, elsewhere, Emley Moor sets the highest overnight minimum temperature in UK’s history. The temperature curiously didn’t fall below 25.9 °C (78.6 °F). Emley Moor, a remote transmitting-station, is in West Yorkshire.

Record temperatures, not limited to England, have been recorded at Scotland’s RAF Charterhall. The RAF base, at 34.8 °C (94.6 °F), sets the new all-time high record for the country.
