Unexpected Inundation
Unwitting first-time player wrecks the slot machine
My friend Scott related this tale of a startling experience of a college classmate. I don’t recall her name or where she came from. I’ll call her Marina, foreign exchange student from Russia. I classified this piece as fiction because I had to fabricate the details given that I was not privy to the event.
Marina, whilst on a three-hour harbor cruise, wandered into the ship’s gaming room. Puzzled upon observing a woman inserting coins into an odd-looking device, repeatedly pulling a lever whilst mumbling vulgarities, Marina inquired as to what she was up to.
The woman stepped back from the machine and instructed Marina to plug a quarter into the slot. Marina rummaged in her purse, dug out a quarter, and obliged. As soon as she yanked the lever, a deluge of quarters tumbled from the machine, pinged off her ankles, and pooled around her feet.
Marina sobbed uncontrollably as she profusely apologized for breaking the machine.
