Understanding “The Surrender Experiment”

I got the chance to read Michael A Singer’s “The Surrender Experiment: My Journey into Life’s Perfection.” My eldest brother recommended me this book as it helped him with his career aspirations. I was amazed by how the author decided to ‘go with the flow,’ let life take him where it wants him to take and how he found peace, success, danger and peace. It was a good read during my commute to work via the New York City Subway.

“The Surrender Experiment” amazes me as how the author found content with his life, how everything worked out for him in the end despite his unwillingness to do the things he was offered. His life is sometimes I wish I had like having a house in the woods where I could do whatever I want, not worrying about money as it keeps coming in plus the work which I enjoy doing. I enjoy being a teacher but the long commute to my school drains me. I do not get the time to unwind before I start working with the kids.

It is interesting how discontent an individual becomes. God gives unique things to us for our benefits. You sometimes wonder there are people who would dream for a lifestyle we have. Somebody living in war-torn areas, lack of food, no family, no roof over their heads would dream of having our lives which we call crappy.

How ironic?

Michael Singer himself didn’t wanted to do the many things he was chosen to do but he did it anyway by surrendering. Meditation helped him overcome his misery and discontent he felt with a particular task. You have to connect to God in order to find where your life has meaning, whether working in parks to joining the military to running for public office.

Sometimes, you have to take the bitter pills life gives you. It could range from losing a family member to having your car towed. Every roadblock makes you a better person and helps you learn. I chose to give up my apartment because it was too expensive for me. Now, if I need to find another apartment, it has to be below of what I can afford.

Verdict: “The Surrender Experiment” is a great read. I encourage y’all to grab a copy of it and read for self-improvement, motivation and a way to connect to God.
