Understanding how the British project their racism
People from all over the world express themselves in different ways and they also have a different set of beliefs. The UK is a unique country as it’s one that believes it doesn’t have much of any sort of racism, or at least it didn’t up until now. But there is a lot of racism and discrimination and it’s obvious if you live here and are one of the people being oppressed.
From the outside, the UK to most people seems like a very tolerant country, and to be honest, compared to most countries it is. But when you’re living here it’s a different story. The word tolerate is very literal and it’s “tolerate under certain conditions.”

It’s all covert
The main reason why so many people think that the British aren’t racist and are polite is because they’re so covert about everything. It’s hard to get a read on someone when they’re indirect, don’t say what they mean, and do most of their talking about you behind your back.
It’s all smiles and politeness to your face but when your back is turned it’s daggers. It’s a very basic bitch way to live if you think about it.
Racism isn’t something that you’ll often have blatantly thrown in your face although it does happen. Try living in the West Country, people here are very openly racist.
In regards to most racism, you won’t even see it before it’s too late but you can see the effects of it. POC aren’t at the top of many industries and there is a lot of segregation. Spend time with a white person and see how uncomfortable they get when you speak about your culture.
The spreading of false narratives
This is the thing that probably annoys me the most. Fucking British people and the lies that they spread. I have to give them credit they’re very good at it, a lot of people forget that Britain colonised most of the world and is one of the most evil countries out there to this day. When it comes to evil Western countries people usually look to America first whilst Britain is in the background supporting them.
People forget that the British destroyed a lot of countries and did also own slaves. They forget because the British made them forget and it’s not an overt country. When you’re overt like America is people know what you are, but when you’re covert like the British people are always unsure. One day you’re one thing and the next day you’re something else.
In the UK if a high population of POC live somewhere it’s automatically labelled a shithole. This is why so many people still think Birmingham is so bad even though it’s objectively the second-best city in the country.
When the British don’t like someone of a certain race they start rumours and make the other group out to be evil. The evil Asians stay in their own communities, whilst when the British move to Spain… they stick to their own communities.
British people love to make out they're the victim, but it’s not always race-related, I’ve grown to learn it’s just how people are here in all aspects of life. No one wants to take responsibility and it’s always someone else’s fault.
The class hierarchy
The class hierarchy does affect race because POCs are expected to be at the bottom and stay there. If they see you moving off the bottom slowly fighting your way up the ladder then they’ll start kicking your fingers to make sure you fall off.
The problem with living in a class-based society is that people hate to see others do well, but I’m not going to pretend that British people wouldn’t rather certain types of people do better than others.
If it’s a choice between a working-class white person and a black person… they’ll take the white person all day regardless of the consequences. I’ve seen it happen many times.
The blocking of opportunities
Getting good opportunities in the UK as a POC is a real fight because so many people are trying to stop you. They’re all smiles to your face but they’re working overtime to stop you from doing anything with your life. They’re scared and they don’t want POCs “taking over.”
You’re going to be gaslighted and told you’re not good enough no matter how hard you work and no matter what anyone else is doing. It’s no wonder there are so many POC here with talent, being told you’re not good enough motivates many people to do better.
You can push through and there is a certain point when they can’t deny you because you’re so good. That happened to me when I lived in Manchester, there was no competition and I made sure to get so good that I was hard to deny for a valid reason.
They still did it of course and only Southerners would give me a chance because they’re less racist than Northerners.
This is why I think it’s important for POCs not to quit and help each other. Things won’t change if we’re letting racist people pull the strings. It’s not easy and there are days when you will want to blow your brains out, but change is never easy. If change was easy then we’d live in a more equal world.
