Unbreak
A poem

It creeps up on you
Brokenness
Shards, a glimmer of their former self
It eats and gnaws and builds, tile by tile, block on block, a formidable fortress of broken things
Words spoken too soon, too late… words unspoken
Promises taking lone bullets long before sunrise
Hearts shredded before they ever could beat
Heal…
And break again before the glue is dry
Ghosts of yesterday’s hurt waltzing delicately in the shadows
Every heart a suspect
Love, is it real? Worth it? Is it reserved for a lucky few?
Does it matter?
Find,
We find and lose it all over again
The unrelenting cycle of pain too familiar
An unwelcome warmth, a staggered but well-oiled cycle
It stops somewhere, we hope
It ends.
And we go forward and then backwards
To heal and hurt again.
