Unanswered Calls
Do you hear that ringing coming from within?
The telephone is ringing but there’s no answer. It’s our inner voice calling us but we are hitting the ignore button. Constantly. We did this action so many times that it has become automatic. We don’t need to look at the caller ID to see who is calling. We know and we don’t care.
We don’t care because we don’t want to follow our inner voice. We don’t want to hear what our heart is telling us. We just want to feel happiness and pleasure. And this is achieved through ignoring your true self because the path to self-discovery is long and painful. Whereas doing what everyone else is doing is easy.
We follow the crowd because it involves no thinking. Someone else has already chosen for us what to wear, to eat, and do. They have removed the burden of thinking. We greatly appreciate this act of well-being. Thank you!
But to whose benefit is this. Were we created to act like one another? We wake up and do about the same things as everyone else on a daily basis. Things such as eating, going to the bathroom, sleeping, etc. But these are essential human needs. I’m talking about the other things. Things that we choose to do. Things that require deep thinking before acting and even more deep thinking after acting. Were we created to think and then choose or just say yes to things that have been already chosen for us.
It seems like we are perfectly fine with living our lives through someone else’s choices. Not taking responsibility for our lives but having the right to complain about its outcomes has been a habit for a long time. When will we stop and actually think if we are living our life or just saying yes to choices that have been made for us. When will we pick up that phone that’s been ringing for a long time.
The system is doing all it can to make us forget that we were all created differently to carry out different lives. But it would be pretty difficult to market products to us if all of us were aware of this. So, they came up with the idea of this so called “globalization” to turn people into one. This way it’s easier to sell and make everyone a consumer.
Everyone wants to buy clothes from the same brands, wear the same shoes, and do the same activities. These aren’t conscious choices made through thinking. We just glance at our IG feed and assume doing whatever that celebrity did will make us happy and complete. We just do it so we can say we did it. There’s no intrinsic reward. Only an extrinsic pride because we weren’t left out and now we can cross out another item from our list. But, is it our list.
I’ve noticed that since this epidemic started people are only buying what they need. It feels like we are going back to the basics. We aren’t looking to spend money on things that we think we want but definitely don’t need. This is a start in the right direction. If we can keep this up after this epidemic ends, we will have taken a step in the right direction and stayed on course. If we only do the things that we need, we will begin to be in tune with our heart and hear its voice. And, maybe, we won’t have unanswered calls anymore.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people don’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. - Coach Carter
