08 August 2020 Saturday Poetry Prompt: pandemic

The words refuse the census the death-defying poet goes a little mad
Or maybe really mad
Unable to leave the cigarette butt on the street wherever it lands on these fresh plague streets but unwilling to touch it to touch anything now is not a right but a fucking chore
Your breath stays home with you the mind roaming in cars and hotels readjusting expectations but nothing meeting desire
Yet there’s a thunderstorm that is supposed to be coming Maybe we can shut up and count the lightning strikes to put your mind on something else

Prompt:
Perhaps it’s long past time we did a prompt like this. I’m sure many of you/us are suffering from pandemic fatigue. But I’m curious to hear what your feelings are on the subject. Write a poem, or any other kind of writing, using the word pandemic; it doesn’t have to contain exactly that word: your piece might use the concepts or attributes of the word. Tag me in it (J.D. Harms). You can either send it to this publication or make it a stand-alone piece. If you would not like to send it to us, make sure to leave a comment below with a link to the story.
