Abstract

In the past 24 hours, significant geopolitical developments have unfolded. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has expressed a strong desire for Ukraine to join the European Union, a move supported by the European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen. However, this push for EU integration has been met with skepticism by

Today, President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, urged the European Union to make Ukraine a member-state of the European Union — something that the country has been flirting with for a couple of years.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has said that Ukraine is more than welcome to join the European Union — something that usually takes a lot of time and documents to be completed.

The president of Ukraine has had a phone call with von der Leyen today, and I must say that this might not be a good idea for Europe.

Now must have been said that von der Leyen said that Ukraine could be a good member of the EU on the long term since they have already been working together for a long time.

They really should be a part of the European Union.

Putin’s Nuclear Thread

This weekend, Vladimir Putin, president of Russia and aggressor in this situation, has said that if the West would continue with these ‘sanctions’, the West would face something they have never experienced.

Many people think he is hinting on a nuclear attack.

Shortly after that, Putin has sent a decree into the military to ready their nuclear weapons, which suggests that they aren’t scared of using them.

Hearing the message that Ukraine would love to join the European Union wouldn’t really calm Putin down at the moment, I think. It’s more realistic that he will become even more violent than he already is.

Turkey’s Membership Status

Turkey has been a membership applicant for the European Union for a very long time, since 1987 Turkey has tried to become a member of the then European Community and now European Union.

Becoming a member of the EU is a very difficult and long process, and Turkey’s negotiations have been stalled since 2016.

After many incidents in the country that didn’t really conform to the standards of modern day Europe, an example is the fact that many journalists were captured and are imprisoned in the country.

Although Turkey hasn’t proven themselves to be the best candidate for EU membership, they have been negotiating for a very long time about it — giving Ukraine an immediate membership would be a slap in the face for president Erdoğan.

Interesting though is the fact that Turkey is kind of neutral in this conflict, the country has alliances with both Ukraine and Russia and has said it doesn’t want to drop either of the two.

The president of Ukraine has requested Turkey to close the Bosporus to Russian military vessels, and it has granted the request of Ukraine just a couple of hours ago.

Negotiation Talks Between Russia and Ukraine

Today, Russian delegates and Ukrainian delegates negotiated about the situation in Belarus (not the most neutral location if you ask me).

We don’t know what has been spoken about in these negotiation talks, but I must conclude that it didn’t work out the way they wanted because Russia has launched another missile on the city of Kharkiv.

Hopefully the two parties come to an agreement, so this war can end and nobody will be harmed.
