Summary

The "Poetry Ubuntu Series" article titled "Across Oceans of Hope" emphasizes the interconnectedness of humanity and the need for collective action during challenging times, advocating for a unified approach to overcome global adversity.

Abstract

The article "Across Oceans of Hope" is part of the Ubuntu Series, which embodies the philosophy of "I am because you are." It reflects on the collective struggle of humanity amidst a metaphorical raging fire, suggesting that the only way to extinguish this global challenge is through unity—merging minds, hearts, and spirits across the globe. The piece critiques the reliance on a vaccine as a sole solution, highlighting the disparity in access and the lack of fruitful efforts to support those in need. It calls for a reawakening to our shared origins and responsibilities, echoing the Ubuntu principle that our existence is interdependent. The article, authored by James G Brennan in 2021, is the second in the series and invites readers to explore the previous piece, "Ubuntu Mbira," while also announcing the upcoming title, "Birth."

Opinions

  • The author believes that overcoming global challenges requires a collective effort and unity rather than individualistic or isolated approaches.
  • There is a critical view of the reliance on vaccines as the primary solution to global crises, emphasizing that this approach neglects those without access to such resources.
  • The article expresses that current efforts to support fellow humans have been insufficient, particularly in addressing the needs of the less fortunate.
  • It suggests that humans are inherently connected, having been "born under the same tree," and that this connection comes with a shared responsibility to one another.
  • The piece encourages a sense of urgency, indicating that "the time is now to wake up from our slumber" and take action in support of our global community.
  • Gratitude is conveyed towards Suntonu Bhadra for providing a platform for the author's words, and towards the readers for their time and attention.

Ubuntu we are because we are

Ubuntu: I am because you are.

We move through troublesome times some more so than others, all suffering the effect of this raging fire however big or small. There’s only one true way to put out this fire; we all become one again, one mind one heart one spirit joining together across oceans of hope.

Faith in a vaccine to do our work for us will not help those without access, our responsibility to one another so far has not bore the fruit so needed for our fellow brothers and sisters, often forgetting we are born under the same tree with far-reaching roots around the planet. The time is now to wake up from our slumber.
