Typing with my Thumbs

Time to start throwing out more drafts

I’ve never been one for typing lengthy missives on a mobile device. Oh, I can crank out an email or two when needed — though I desperately miss the Blackberry’s physical keyboard for that. But I’m not the type of person who will sit and whisk my thumbs across my screen in order to tap out a blog post or to get something up here.

But, I’m also finding that I am not writing as much as I would like to. It’s not because of a lack of things to say, and it’s definitely not because I don’t want to write — though I’m finding time to write a little scarce at the moment.

I firmly believe that I am good enough to make writing into a solid side gig, particularly when I’m devoting enough time to it. But I’m finding that the time I have isn’t always where or when I have access to a computer with a keyboard.

As much as I loathe writing on my phone, I think I’m going to have to do more of it in the weeks and months ahead. And while this isn’t an ideal outcome, I think it’s the best way for me to at least get the bare bones of an idea down, leaving me with a framework that I can fill out once I can get to one of my keyboards.

I’m not quite ready for voice to text dictation yet either…damn, does that make me a luddite in the 21st century?
