Two Years on Medium, but Got only One Follower. Why.

I joined Medium like two years ago. You know what the funny part is?

I forgot that I even had a Medium account already. I based much on my LinkedIn with over 12k followers.

As an education professional, I have been posting content about education, and engaging by writing articles on my NewsLetter #KidigaArticles (with over 2k subscribers now). So when my writing passion grew day after day, I decided to explore more on internet.

One day I saw a post on LinkedIn, stating that writers can get paid on Medium. I was like, Whaaaat?! Really?!

I jumped on Medium, downloaded the app and started signing up by using my google account, but wasn't able to sign up. What was the reason behind?... seemed I already had an account. I got shocked, How?! When did I create an account on Medium? I don't remember. Let me check.

After I signed in, found my account already created a long time ago. I was surprised. I also had only 1 follower. So it's like those days I was surfing on internet and created an account, no profile picture,I didn't post a single article or commented to others' articles, no even a clap. I think I left Medium and didn't come back, maybe because I wasn't so much aware about Medium, how it works, and how to interact. But Now, I do.

Tho I realized a challenge on Medium. My country Tanzania isn’t eligible for payment through 'Stripe’. But that didn’t make me give up, I turned my desire of writing as passion, just like what I do on LinkedIn. I hope one day more writers from different countries will be eligible for payment, either by Stripe or another payment method. Let’s have faith and embrace this amazing platform.

After I came back to Medium this month and started engaging, my followers went up from 1 to 30+, got views and reads to my few articles.

Therefore, here on Medium, I really like to engage to others' articles by reading, learning and commenting as well.
