Two Days, Too Far Away

Photo by Dingzeyu Li on Unsplash

life always seems two days too far away

from summer suns in elementary school hoping our parents will let us have one more game of kick the can before we go in

to racing our bikes around ‘new’ parts of the neighborhood aging too slowly for our imaginations, hopes, and dreams

life always seems two days too far away

from crisp morning air tunneling through our noses anxiously awaiting our first middle school classes, fresh faces, and new schedules

to realizing our limitations in transportation desiring adventures, while overcoming the resistance of too tired hard-working parents

life always seems two days too far away

from keys of freedom on the warm asphalt window down, music loud, bumping from the single working speaker

to major decisions about where our lives should go applications, scholarships, anticipation, rejection, and settling for simplicity

life always seems two days too far away

from uprooting comfort to chase dreams bright lights, public transit, and time spent pouring into soon to be new friends

to realizations of ‘uh oh… …this is love’ sitting on benches watching others live life, hearing kids say…

life always seems two days too far away

Slow down, take a breath, ride the storm, embrace the pulse of the moment. You were made for such a time as this.

life is here, now
