Twitter Threads Annoy Me: Please Write an Article Instead

A rant in images

I’ve been thinking about writing a more detailed article about why people should write Medium articles instead of Twitter threads. That’s probably something I’ll do in the future.

In the meantime, please enjoy these screenshots.

Here’s how it started. Mike Goldberg posted a Tweet, and I happened to notice a link to a Medium article.

Lately I’ve been ranting to myself internally about Twitter threads. Thinking about why they seem to be a waste of time.

So when I saw Mike share a link instead of a Twitter thread, I commented.

Well, he asked.

So I answered.

My original intention was to leave it at that, and then write an article later.

That is not what happened.

But wait, there’s more.

Yep. I’m old and a curmudgeon. Twitter was better in 2008.

It’s still fantastic, and actually that’s a lie. It’s better now because there were way fewer people on Twitter in 2008.

Wait. That might also be a lie because it was definitely better without some of the people that are on Twitter.

But overall it might be (must be) better now because 10+ years ago, a lot of people I know and love on Twitter weren’t there.

He did indeed help! But also, I wasn’t done.

Actually, this is where the screenshots no longer make sense chronologically (bah Twitter threads) so you’ll have to piece things together for yourself.

You’re smart, though. It won’t be hard.

I have nothing funny or useful to add here.

But this space needs a sentence or two, because reasons.

There is/was more but I’m too lazy to try to find all of my tweets and responses, screenshot them and then organize them accurately.

Hopefully this made sense. If not, thank you (and I’m sorry?) for reading.

Here’s a link to the Tweet that started the conversation.

Perhaps I will revise this and make it more readable, but I’m going to give in to the desire for immediate gratification and publish this as a shitty first draft.

P.S. Want to read more rants like this and also help me make money writing them?

(Yes. The answer is yes.)

Join Medium for $5/month with my referral link.

Allegedly I will receive $2 of your $5/month membership fee, for all eternity. Or until you remember that you’re paying for a subscription you’re not using it and get around to canceling it.

Which, effectively, will be more or less eternity. That’s why subscription models are a thing. Duh.

In exchange, you’ll get to read ALL of my articles plus content from literally millions of other writers on Medium, at least 500 of which are way better writers than me.

Thanks! You’re awesome. Here’s the link again in case you forgot to click it the first time.

This one is better, anyway. Did I already tell you that you’re my favorite and my hero? ;)
