Let’s get social on Twitter!

Have you been to a Twitter social hour chat? I’ve attended several over the years, as a mommy blogger and Etsy seller. I thought it would be fun to try out a Daily Cuppa Chat social hour.

So what the heck is a social hour on Twitter?

It’s a way to chat with other Twitter users around a certain subject, using a hashtag to connect the conversations.

A live chat on Twitter is when the participants are tweeting in real-time, making sure to use the chat hashtag so people can follow along. If you’re not able to make a chat, you can still see the chat using the hashtag.

To follow a hashtag, you would go to Explore, or the microscope icon and type in a hashtag, for example “#pantrychat” as shown above. To follow a conversation, click on “latest” as shown above.

The host will ask questions throughout the hour to keep the conversation moving along. In the example above, you see “Q5” in front of the question. That indicates the question from the host, CompletePantry.

To keep the conversation organized, the chat user would answer with “A5” to show it is an answer to that question, along with the chat hashtag.

Why would I want to do this?

The chat is an informal and fun way to gain new followers AKA as readers of your Medium articles. And a great way to engage more with your existing followers.

This is also a great way to get to know more writers in a social-hour kind of way, without having to get dressed up (that’s my favorite part).

As the host, I’ll prepare questions ahead of time. We will talk about our articles and writing on Medium. And what our favorite hot beverage is and how many of us have cats sitting on our keyboards. Ya know, fun stuff like that.

If you have any questions you want to submit for the chat, let me know in the comments below.

Remember, if you can’t make it live, you can still join the conversation by answering questions later (remember to add the chat hashtag to your tweets).

If you have questions on how the event works or to submit for the social hour, leave them in the comment box below.

Hope to chat with you all on Wednesday!
