Twitter Has Become A Cesspit of Unbridled Bitterness and Hatred

Haven’t people got better things to focus their emotional energy on?

In the UK, the Prime Minister is set to resign. His cabinet is in tatters and he’s made a lot of mistakes. Known better for his clownish activities than for being straight and honest, he has a habit of forgetting things and telling porkies (lying).

I get it. His time has come. Time to go. But all this hatred! It’s coming from every pore of the internet.

Why waste so much energy on hating someone? Don’t answer that. I know the issues. I just think hatred is far too present in our lives and it doesn’t do us any good.

I don’t hate anyone. People have wronged me in my life. Sometimes badly. Sometimes unforgivably. But there’s no benefit in spending your life hating people. Spouting bitterness. I try to understand and try to move on. Sometimes that’s easier said than done.

But I don’t waste my time hating politicians. We live in a democracy. Sometimes you don’t like the guy (or gal) who gets voted in. That’s life. Then he goes and that’s life too.

We all go through phases of having different governments and different agendas. In US politics, I liked Obama. Not so keen on Trump. Not sure about Biden. But I don’t hate anyone. What’s the point?

When we want to see change, we can write about it, lobby, we can try to be the change that we want to see. We can get into politics if we’re that passionate, but hate and bitterness does nothing but wind people up. Including those who are spouting it.

I don’t hate our Prime Minister. He’s made mistakes. He’s been an idiot. He could have handled things better. But that can be said of everyone — including the other side.

Hatred is terrible for our mental health. It’s better to take a step back, form a view, but watch things unfold without the emotional outburst of hatred and bitterness that gets you so enraged.

According to MedicineNet, Hatred can lead to obsessive thoughts, depression, anxiety, and it can lead to an increase of stress hormones, which can negatively impact your immune system. Source: PubMed.gov

Right now, there’s a political theatre going on, with at least 50 cabinet ministers having resigned. The Prime Minister has finally said he’ll resign too. But he’ll continue to govern until a replacement is appointed in the autumn. People *hate* that.

I watch the news in awe and wonder. It’s all a bit crazy, to be honest.

I’m curious about what happens next. Clearly, it’s time for the PM to go, but who will take his place? And what does the future hold as we enter the cooler months and Covid continues to come in waves?

I’m interested. I’m curious. I can see that mistakes have been made, and people have been foolish. But I don’t hate. Hate is pointless.

The PM is resigning and we’ll see what comes next.
