Turning Impatience into Peace
“Take your time, and hurry up.” Grandma used to say.
Lines suck.

I want to be on time. But I have to wait in line. Don’t they know I am late?
Muscles tense. Foot tapping, jaw tightens. Irritation slides in. Thoughts, judgments about the next person at the kiosk, or whatever is doing such and such.
Waiting becomes intolerable.
I-HAVE-TO-WAIT?! My head is EXPLODING!

Wait a minute — sigh…
I remember to breathe. Focus on my breath. Sense my body. Bend my knees a bit. I rock gently on my feet — side to side.
I remind myself I’m practicing patience while I’m waiting.
A soothing thought.
I notice how my feet connect through my shoes to the floor.
I ground myself.
Yes!
Yes. I move forward in the line.
I notice my breath.
The world opens up. Focus widens. Noticing my breath, impatience turns to patience. I see myself arriving on time for my meeting.
I say something to the person in front of me. Something nice.
My breath brings peace. Irritation melts. Love appears. Love without object. Unconditional Love? Maybe. It feels so good.
A brief conversation with the person in front of me.
Peace.
Blessings, Passion, and Grace on your journey. May whatever your looking for — find you.
