Turn To The First Page Of A New Chapter

What will you write?

Writing for me is usually spur of the moment. Christina DeFeo wrote a great article highlighting some of the black creators on Vocal Media last year and asked about my writing. I stated

I do not plan my stories. I usually have no idea where the story will go. I sit or lay in bed, allowing the words embedded in my brain to bleed through my hands into a format where they can be read. Sometimes, words fall off the edges.

I am looking forward to continuing my writing journey here on medium in the hopes that my poems/stories will continue to resonate with others. Below is a poem that I wrote about my writing.

When words fill my mind I set them free and like birds they fly and soar across the writing sky They were never mine to keep They must be released to find new homes where they can settle in a place to serve others in need so they too can enjoy their beauty Let them be a source of joy, comfort, and relief

As you turn the page in your book of life and begin to write this new chapter, please don’t rush through it.

The goal here is not to create a first/rough draft. The goal is to take time to enjoy the moments and allow life to provide you with the words that will fill each page. Correct grammar and punctuation aren’t necessary. It’s about the experience and the memories shared. If anything burdens you, release it onto the page. Remember that if it feels too heavy, it may mean that it isn’t yours to carry.

Don’t strain yourself trying to do it. Strength isn’t about how heavy your load is but your ability to release what burdens you the most.

Happy New Year Everyone! Wishing you all success as you continue your writing journey. May 2022 be better than 2021.
