POETRY
Tuesdays in Michigan
Life is a rejection sandwich, but you made it worth every bite.
I miss your face
and the way your eyes would sing my praises
love and admiration poured directly from them
straight into my heart
I soaked you up like cake meets coffee
Before you, I hadn’t been pure in a long time
My goodness was hidden from the world by flaws and fears and endless criticisms
In one moment, your loving gaze brought all that is good in me to life again
my heart cracked open
And I felt the joy of my own beauty rising to the surface
Where you held me close and whispered my name like a delicacy
You made me sweet again
And whole…holy
Like cake meets coffee
The bitter soaked up by the sweet
the light in your eyes made my heart race
So, yeah, you can say it
I miss your face
