Summary

Tucker Carlson, a Fox News presenter, has expressed a profound change in his perspective, acknowledging the mainstream media's role as a tool for controlling public opinion and expressing regret for his past support of the Iraq war.

Abstract

In a recent podcast, Tucker Carlson made a startling admission that has garnered unexpected respect from a non-American observer. He revealed his realization that mainstream media functions as a mechanism for powerful individuals to shape public thought, a revelation that led him to reassess his previous staunch support for the Iraq war. Carlson expressed deep regret for his role in perpetuating misinformation and for dismissing dissenting voices. His newfound insights have prompted him to recognize the media's true purpose as a means of control rather than information, a sentiment that aligns with critiques previously articulated by figures like Noam Chomsky. Despite Carlson's past and the platform he represents, his candidness about the media's manipulative role and his own complicity has earned him a surprising endorsement from a critic who once detailed the systemic issues within mainstream media.

Opinions

  • The author is surprised and impressed by Tucker Carlson's candid admissions and self-critique regarding his role in the media's control apparatus.
  • There is a sense of skepticism about why it took Carlson so long to arrive at these realizations, given that the author had written about similar issues at a much younger age.
  • The author respects Carlson for his honesty in admitting his past mistakes, particularly his support for the Iraq war and his dismissal of alternative viewpoints.
  • Carlson's statements are seen as a significant departure from the typical stance of mainstream news presenters, who are often perceived as being complicit in the media's manipulative practices.
  • The author endorses Carlson as their favorite mainstream news presenter, albeit with the caveat that the bar for such endorsements is quite low.
  • The author reiterates the importance of understanding that mainstream media is controlled by a small group of powerful people, echoing Carlson's own admissions.

Tucker Carlson Just Said Something Incredible

I Still Can’t Believe What I Just Heard

Now, I’m not even from the USA. And I haven’t even watched much Tucker Carlson.

As a Fox News presenter, I have no doubt that he’s said ridiculous and insane things in the past. But on a recent podcast he said something that just blew my mind. And, honestly, it gave me a new found respect for the guy.

Tucker: “That’s a big part of the revelation that has changed my life…that the media are part of the control apparatus. (…) What if you’re me and you spent your whole life in that world (the news industry), and to look around and go….”oh wow…”.

First, Tucker seems to have come to the revelation that mainstream news is actually just a tool that powerful people use to get the public to think the way they want. Better late than never Tucker.

He then goes on talk about his regrets about the way he acted during the Iraq war.

Tucker: “I spent most of my life being part of the problem — defending the Iraq war. Like, I actually did that. Can you imagine if you did that?”

Q: What is one of the biggest regrets of your career?

Tucker: “Defending the Iraq war. I have a million regrets: not being more skeptical…calling people names when I should have listened to what they were saying.”

I’m shocked to find myself admiring a Fox News host. Here, he admits to a major mistake he made and essentially owns up to his own stupidity. And honestly, I respect him for this.

But it gets even better. He goes on to describe the reality of mainstream news perfectly:

Tucker: “Well, you’re 28 (speaking to young podcast host). You’re like “Ya… of course they’re (the mainstream media) part of the means of control”. That’s obvious to you because you’re 28 but…I just didn’t see it…at all. And I’m ashamed.”

Q: Isn’t that what the media tries to do though?

Tucker: It’s their only purpose! They’re not here to inform you. Even on the big things that really matter like the economy and war and COVID. Things that will really matter and affect you. No. Their job is not to inform you. They’re working for the small group of people who actually run the world.”

Go ahead read that again. He said that the purpose of the mainstream media is not to inform us.

It’s even more shocking to hear the most popular TV news presenter in the USA admit that mainstream news is actually owned and run by a small group of powerful people.

Partly it’s incredible because it seems like he genuinely had no idea that this was the case. When I was just 27 years old, I wrote a detailed piece explaining in detail how the mainstream media actually works.

Briefly, the way it works at mainstream news organisations is that only a certain window of topics are allowed to be discussed. Anybody who dares to discuss topics outside this narrow window will be shunned, banned and laughed at.

Noam Chomsky puts it like this: “The picture of the world that’s presented to the public has only the remotest relation to reality. The truth of the matter is buried under edifice after edifice of lies upon lies”

If I could figure this out when I was 27, why did it take Tucker Carlson so many years to do the same?

Nevertheless, I respect Tucker Carlson for admitting how utterly blind he and others working for mainstream news organisations have been over the years.

I never thought I’d say this, but a Fox News host is now my favourite mainstream news presenter.

Well, the bar is extremely low after all.

Don’t forget. The mainstream news is owned and operated by powerful people. Tucker said it himself: the purpose of mainstream media is not to inform us.
