Trying the Famous Taco Street in Mexico City
I just regret that I didn’t find this taco spot sooner.

Who can say no to tacos?
In every corner of Mexico City, you find taco stalls. Cheapest, or a bit expensive ones. But not all are winners. Some are just blah — tasteless — and fail to satisfy your taste buds.
It was a Saturday afternoon, and the weather was perfect for stepping outside after nearly a week of staying at home due to the flu. And I think eating tacos was a great idea to celebrate my recovery.
The street taco where I went was Tacos Ruben, known as the most famous taco in the city.
My husband and I biked our way there, just 3.8 km from our place. It’s so close, but we never noticed before.

When we arrived, there were no long lines, but plenty of people waiting for their orders.
“Buenas noches,” I said to the vendor and waited to make an order. The taquero* was still busy chopping the meat with a machete on a huge block of wood.
*taquero is someone who makes the tacos.
Finally, it’s our turn.
“Yo quiero tres tacos del suadero* para comer aquí.” “I want three suadero tacos to eat here,” I said.
*Suadero is part of the meat between the belly and leg.
And my husband orders 5 different kinds: suadero, lengua (tongue), cabeza (head), ojos (eyes), and tripa (intestine).
“Verduras, cebolla, salsa rosa, or verde” he asked.
“Con todos, con salsa verde, por fa,” we answered.
I stood in front of the cart, staring at the sizzling pot of meat. The flavor was killing me. It smelled so good and made my mouth water.
Above it, I read a sign reading “Las Crónicas del Tacos Netflix Tacos Ruben’s.”
Well, I found out why this taco is so popular; it has been featured in the Netflix series.
But first, let’s check how it tastes.
It didn’t take long for the vendor to hand over my plates, which were still hot and smelled delicious.

As I folded the warm, chewy corn tortilla and took that first bite, the flavors melded together — soft and juicy suadero, a hint of pepper from cilantro, a crisp tanginess from cebolla, and a spicy kick from the salsa. Every bite was satisfied.
At the time, I was wondering why I hadn’t discovered this taco spot sooner.
