Try This Haunted 1920s Cocktail for Perfect 2024 Parties!
It’s a splash of gin and so much more!

Allow me to introduce the White Lady, named for the white lady ghosts from the world’s most deathly, haunted halls.
Fans of the Golden Age of Detective Fiction will have encountered this cocktail before.
It’s the frothy concoction Magersfontein Lugg shakes up for Albert Campion, and Mervyn Bunter proffers to Lord Peter Wimsey. Sharp eyes will spy Inspector Alleyn and latecomer Phryne Fisher downing a dewy glassful.
Fans of soft mysteries involving cow creamers and policemen’s helmets will see Jeeves sliding the occasional White Lady on a silver salver to Bertie Wooster.
Recipes abound online. Here’s mine:
- Two shots of your favorite gin
- One shot sweet orange liquor (Cointreau, Triple Sec, Dry Curaçao, etc.)
- dash of lemon juice (optional, to taste)
- orange bitters (optional)
- white of one egg
Combine ingredients and shake until frothy. Add ice and shake again until frosty. Deliver into chilled coupe glasses and enjoy the ghost!
