Trust the Heart While Taking Major Decisions
Because the heart’s energy field is more perceptive than that of the brain

“In small matters trust the mind, in the large ones, the heart.”
(Sigmund Freud )
We consider the brain to be the body’s master organ. It holds the cognitive and emotional switches that we flip when thinking and feeling.
Conventional wisdom says we must think before making major life decisions like choosing a life partner or taking up a job. The thinking brain will help us to examine the pros and cons rationally and help us make optimal choices.
Scientific findings periodically change in the light of fresh evidence. The emerging field of neurocardiology says the heart has its own brain and consciousness. Tuning in to the heart’s intuitive power will help us make excellent decisions.
The heart is in constant communication with the brain. Its electric and electromagnetic fields are stronger than those of the brain.
The neurons within the heart enable the heart to learn, remember, and decide independently of the brain’s cerebral cortex.
The heart may be more intuitive than the brain
Both the brain and the heart receive and respond to information about a future event before the event actually happens. The heart appears to receive this ‘intuitive’ information before the brain. According to Rollin McCraty and Raymond Trevor Bradley, researchers at The Institute of HeartMath, “the heart’s field may be linked to a more subtle energetic field that contains information on subjects and events remote in space or ahead in time.”
Intuition is a storehouse of accumulated knowledge
In some spiritual traditions, the heart is the soul’s seat. Intuition is the soul’s consciousness that carries information accumulated across lives. Psychiatrist Judith Orloff, in an article in Psychology Today, says that we must listen to the body’s intuitions about vibes before deciding :
“Positive Intuitions About Relationships or Situation”
- “a feeling of comforting familiarity or brightness; you may sense you’ve known the person before, as with the experience of deja-vu
- you breathe easier, chest and shoulders are relaxed, gut is calm
- you find yourself leaning forward, not defensively crossing your arms or edging away to keep a distance
- your heart opens; you feel safe, peaceful, energized, expansive, or alive
- you’re at ease with a person’s touch whether a hand shake, hug, or during intimacy.”
“Negative Intuitions About Relationships or Situations”
- “a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach or increased stomach acid which may prompt an unpalatable deja-vu
- your skin starts crawling, you’re jumpy, instinctively withdraw if touched
- shoulder muscles are in knots, chest area or throat constricts; you notice aggravated aches or pains
- the hair on the back of your neck creepily stands on end
- a sense of malaise, darkness, pressure, agitation, or being drained.”
The body acts as the messenger for the intuitive heart’s signals. We must develop the awareness to be present in the now and listen to the bodily responses and signals.
Validate the brain’s logic with the heart’s wisdom
The brain’s rationality depends on available and visible evidence. Suppose you have met a potential spouse several times. He/she is sociable, has a high-paying job, and looks fine. You may think you have ticked all the right boxes and get ready to plunge into matrimony. You may ignore the subtle signals your heart is trying to send to you through bad vibes. It is the heart’s way of warning you about the person’s negative side.
You are about to sign up for a remunerative job in a big organization. The terms and conditions appear very attractive. The logic says to accept the job. The heart may have other views. The vibes may tell an unfamiliar story. Will you take up the job?
Practice the pause
When the rational brain dictates a particular choice, don’t rush into a decision. Take a pause. Listen to the heart’s message. Go ahead only if the heart endorses the decision through good vibes.
The pause will save us from making terrible choices.
To sum up, the heart is not merely a machine to pump blood to different parts of the body. It is an intelligent, conscious, and discerning organ with a powerful and receptive energy field.
Tap into the heart’s wisdom to make the right decisions in life.
