Trust Between Leaders And Teams Is A Fragile Thing

In my staff meeting this week, I shared a slide my boss had created for a meeting with her boss and share with her staff.

There was one piece of information that was slightly critical of another department and I overlooked it and did not remove it before my staff meeting.

Of course, one of my staff picked up on it and asked about it, and being caught completely off guard, I did not respond well.

I said that I should have removed it prior to the meeting, and I asked the team to treat it with the sensitivity it was due.

Later, I learned that the simple comment about removing the information implied that I did not trust my team.

That was definitely NOT my mindset. But it's hard to deny that is probably the impression I created.
