Trump’s Effect On The Morals Of America
Do morals even exist anymore?
The bottom line is Trump does not care. And it would be funny if it wasn’t such a serious matter.
But when the party who was best known for its strict adherence to traditional values now claims as to their last best hope the most immoral and only twice impeached president in history, America is at the lowest ebb of the moral ocean.
The Republican party sold their souls to Donald Trump and foolishly think they will profit from that deal with the devil. The few who dare to disagree with the former president are being pressured and scorned for simply telling the Truth. Or to put it more correctly, for not going along with the Big Lie.
Sad State Of Affairs
In May 2021, in the United States of America, President Biden’s bid to restore “the soul of America” is a very relevant and very needed message.
In May 2021 in the United States, church attendance is at an all-time low. Millions have abandoned the church, because the leader Evangelicals like Franklin Graham presented as the “most righteous president of modern times” is nothing but a lying, dishonest, racist, unindicted crook who tried to demolish democracy by inciting an insurrection and nearly got his own Vice President killed, so he could stay in power.
In May 2021 in the USA, lying is the natural thing for politicians to do. Truthfulness is no longer a mark of honor. Nowadays it is a remarkable and special thing for the president to speak the truth.
In May 2021, the first year of a new administration of the US government, racism and other forms of prejudice are being foisted upon the public as just the way it is. Allegations of crimes like sex trafficking are no longer acts of dishonor unbecoming a Congressman. No longer is shame attached to hypocrisy or crimes like lying to Congress. You only need to show support for the (45th) president and suddenly you are a good person who is being vilified by the radical left.
In May 2021 in America, you enjoy more safety from the GOP when you spout all kinds of untrue conspiracy theories than a conservative veteran Republican who dares to speak the truth. The test of your worthiness to be in the party is whether you will support the lie that Joe Biden is not the duly elected president, the election was stolen from Donald Trump.
In May 2021, 4 months after the insurrection at the Capitol Building in the US capital, Republican politicians are still trying to get America to believe lies like:
- The insurrection of January 6th did not take place, it was a peaceful protest
- Donald Trump did not lose the election to Joe Biden
- White supremacy has not increased to the point where domestic terrorism is this country’s greatest security threat
- Police are not killing black people unjustifiably and needlessly
- Slavery was not a human tragedy that is a fact of our history but was rather a good business proposition that may have had some hitches along the way. In any case, should not be talked about in any history class in our schools.
- It is necessary to pass new laws to ensure the integrity of an electoral system that, according to their own experts, just accomplished the most secure and fair election in American history.
Certainly, Donald Trump is not solely responsible for all of these false claims. But he has given legitimacy to and tried to make true this fantasy that exists only inside of and to bolster his infantile ego. And those who have supported and/or enabled him to have helped to create an environment where America is headed for anarchy and total moral bankruptcy.
Righteousness exalts a nation, the Bible says, but sin is a reproach to any people. (Proverbs 14:34)
Trump for 4 years led the country into a shameless abandon of all things moral. Many Republicans have taken leave of their sense of right and wrong and threw in their lot with him and follow him off the cliff.
Making The U-Turn
People like Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney who have dared to speak the simple truth of what happened and counsel against this insane decline into moral bankruptcy are being ousted and scorned by the party.
The church was supposed to be the moral thermostat for the country. They certainly dropped that ball when they chose to hold up Donald Trump as an icon of righteousness, a man with no moral compass and who never laid claim to any virtue, anyway.
That leaves the country in a moral freefall.
We are now left with the liberal Democrats to repair that breach in our moral fabric. They have their standards. And they never claimed to be any paragons of virtue.
This is the time and the place for the true church of God to stop being secret agents and make their voices heard. Not just on the single item of laws restricting abortions (like the Republicans advocate). We need the voices that foster goodwill and righteousness and justice for all Americans, especially our most vulnerable.
May God have mercy on all of our souls.
