Summary

President Trump is leveraging unsubstantiated claims of election fraud to fundraise for his election debt, causing national and global concern over his actions and the undermining of US democratic institutions.

Abstract

The article details how President Trump is refusing to concede the presidential election despite a lack of evidence supporting his claims of widespread voter fraud. His actions, including the firing of Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and potential dismissal of other top officials, are seen as attempts to raise money for his election debt and are described as damaging to national security and key institutions. The article also notes the resignation of Richard Pilger, the DOJ's Election Crimes Branch director, following Attorney General William Barr's memo authorizing investigations into alleged election fraud. The piece emphasizes that there have been no credible instances of election fraud reported by state officials from both parties. It criticizes the GOP establishment, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, for supporting Trump's behavior, which is seen as holding the country hostage for financial gain. The article calls for the transition to the Biden administration to begin promptly, highlighting the urgency due to the worsening COVID-19 pandemic and the need for effective leadership.

Trump is Calling Election Foul to Raise Funds for Election Debt

Voter fraud is a ruse to shake down GOP donors

President Trump is refusing to concede the election despite overwhelming evidence that he has lost. He has no corroboration of voter fraud because there is no voter fraud. His GOP enablers continue to appease and support Trump as he undermines and attempts to damage the US and our key institutions.

Trump is doing all of this to raise money to pay his election debt (and because he’s a sore loser).

He has fired Secretary of Defense Mark Esper. Many fear that he will fire FBI Director Christopher Wray and CIA Director Gina Haspel. Trump is burning down the house on his way out. This is terrifying with respect to our national security interests.

President Trump: If you have evidence, show it. But not like this. The Justice Department works for the American people.

Attorney General William Barr issued a memo on Monday, sending his DOJ lawyers on a wild goose chase looking for “election fraud.” This chilling memo resulted in the resignation of a top DOJ official. Here’s a quote from a copy of the resignation letter NBC News obtained:

Richard Pilger, who was director of the Election Crimes Branch of the DOJ, sent a memo to colleagues that suggested his resignation was linked to Barr’s memo, which was issued as the President’s legal team mount baseless legal challenges to the election results, alleging widespread voter fraud cost him the race.

“Having familiarized myself with the new policy and its ramifications, and in accord with the best tradition of the John C. Keeney Award for Exceptional Integrity and Professionalism (my most cherished Departmental recognition), I must regretfully resign from my role as Director of the Election Crimes Branch,” Pilger’s letter said, according to a copy obtained by NBC News.

“I have enjoyed very much working with you for over a decade to aggressively and diligently enforce federal criminal election law, policy, and practice without partisan fear or favor. I thank you for your support in that effort.”

There have been no credible instances of election fraud.

Republican and Democratic Secretaries of States, where votes continue to be counted and prepared to be certified, continue to say that they have not seen any election fraud.

On top of all of this, the GOP establishment, including the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, have supported him. By condoning President Trump’s behavior, they are part of the disaster Trump is conducting.

Didn’t seeing the entire country dancing in the streets as though a war ended tell them something? Or how about globally? The whole world celebrated the end of Trump world. Worldwide celebrations have never happened when an American president has won before.

Trump’s inability to grasp reality concerning the coronavirus has now resulted in his White House election night party turning into another super spreader event. Several key members of the GOP have now tested positive for Covid. This group includes Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, HUD Secretary Ben Carson, and election attorney David Bossie (who handled the election fraud cases until his diagnosis). Meanwhile, the pandemic rages on in the US while we have no leadership from the executive branch.

Trump needs money.

One of Trump’s former advisers says that this is all about Trump’s exit strategy. Trump is doing all of this to fleece his donors to pay for election debts, according to Anthony Scaramucci, who Don Lemon interviewed on CNN Monday night. Scaramucci said,

“Look at the fine print on the emails [to donors for legal funds for election fraud] — they all say that they can use the funds for the campaigns. They have massive debt. They are running the clock out on this to get as much out of this as they can.”

So, Trump is holding the entire country hostage to squeeze funds from his donors to pay for election debts — all under the guise of “the election was stolen,” which is total bullsh*t. The election was not stolen and they know it.

And then back in reality…

Meanwhile, the Biden administration needs to begin the transition process. Every day is important. According to Jen Psaki, former Obama Administration Official, speaking with Anderson Cooper on CNN,

“Every day that there is a delay, there is an impact on the government. We saw the impact the delay in 2000 had — it was cited in the reviews on 9/11. The outcome of the election is clear; there is no mathematical path for Trump…Our preference is for the GSA Administrator to sign the document so we can move on.”

The point is — we are in the middle of a massive national crisis — a pandemic that is killing more and more people every day. It is getting worse and needs attention and focus. The current administration has failed to govern.

The President needs to put on his big boy pants and move on. Stop holding the country hostage and allow the Biden transition team to do their jobs. He looks like a tiny, small man who history will not remember favorably.

And to the Republicans who are enabling the toddler-in-Chief, you should be ashamed of yourselves. And I hope that the voters remember what you have done when your time comes.

We are going to have a long, painful two months leading up to Biden’s inauguration. Many of us are wondering if there’s some way to invoke the 25th Amendment. Who is going to get the straight jacket for this insane man? Trump’s eviction from the White House can’t come fast enough.
