Troops of the Russian Federation, all non-Russian, have engaged each other in a 100-man gunbattle. One unit was from Buryatia. The other was from Chechnya. Most Russian casualties come from impoverished Buryatia, and the Moscow Times reports that Buryats have suffered the greatest single unit losses.
Chechen soldiers are feared for their violence, but in Ukraine they have treated war like a film production, leading them to be called the “TikTok Battalion.” They remain in the rear to “persuade” forces on the line to press forward by opening fire on anyone who tries to retreat.
Ukrainians believe that during one of these acts of “persuasion” Buryat soldiers opened fire on the Chechens. It is unknown who won the battle. We may have to wait to see the video on TikTok.
