“When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.” — Unknown

A couple of years ago, I happened to notice a posting on a Facebook group by a seamstress/quilter advertising that she created handcrafted custom textiles from meaningful clothing.

It sounded like a wonderful idea, so I proceeded to order custom memory quilts for both my young adult kids.

Quilts

Apparently, almost any type of clothing can be incorporated to create a keepsake quilt.

We had multiple school club T-shirts, dance and sports T-shirts, and karate uniforms that the children had outgrown. These clothes dated all the way back from my children’s preschool days up through the end of their high school years.

I had stored them for years in a closet as they were the children’s favorite articles of clothing. However, they were merely collecting dust there.

The quilts took about six months to make as the quilter had a backlog of people who wanted quilts. Be that as it may, it was worth the wait.

We were delighted with the gorgeous quilts.

The quilter did a fabulous job turning those old T-shirts into memorable treasures for my kids. Obviously, a great deal of thought, effort, and love had gone into the making of these quilts.

These sentimental clothing items can now be appreciated daily and remind the kids of particular times and important events in their lives.

Memory Bears

On the same note, I had gifted my father a knitted sweater for Christmas about 25 years ago.

After his passing several years ago, I stored the sweater in a closet in the guest bedroom.

Every time I opened the closet and saw the sweater, I was reminded of Dad.

When I stumbled upon this same website advertising memory bears, I decided to have a bear made in loving memory of my father.

The quilter transformed my beloved father’s favorite sweater into a beautiful memory bear. She even personalized it with a monogram.

I gifted it to my brother as a gift of remembrance of Dad. The bear is a lovely way to continue to be able to feel the love physically. It will hold a special place in his home, on Dad’s favorite spot on the couch where he used to read his daily newspapers.
