Summarize

Travel days are always the most stressful

Some travel days never go as planned, like today.

An abandoned building, Georgia

I should be writing this overlooking a beautiful mountain or river or at least in a cooler climate. I am not. I am in Tbilisi.

I have had almost 900 mental breakdowns today, and it is only 5 pm, so there is still time to make it 1000. I left my hostel this morning running late; I just caught a bus to Tbilisi.

Usually, I would be happy not to have to wait for another bus; however, when it is the very last spot, in the back of the bus, in between two men who did not plan on sharing their space.

Have I mentioned how the buses are here, there is a lack of ventilation, and the driver is usually smoking?

If I haven’t, now I have. Plus, I get car sick; luckily, the ride was mostly straight.

So I piled in, and when I had a chance to move to the front, I did, about 3/4 of the way.

Then I arrived in Tbilisi, the insane bus station. I was looking for a bus to Tusheti, where I should be on my way now.

I am not.

After talking to around 20 drivers, they informed me this area can only be accessed by a 4x4, and first, I have to go to a small town and then get another car or bus. Of course, there is a hefty fee attached to the price, which I understand.

Then I googled.

Sometimes I need more preparation, like today.

Getting to this place is very difficult, and one of the most dangerous roads in the world. A friend informed me that the universe is talking to you, and you should listen.

After an already hectic day, I chose to agree and listen. I emailed my volunteer host, saying I most likely will not make it, as it seemed impossible and they would go, but no one was particularly eager to take me.

I was not keen to sit in a car with anyone at this point, plus they drive like maniacs here not sure I trust them to get me there in one piece. I also read there are a lot of accidents involving tourists.

So no, I am not overlooking a mountain.

I booked a hotel with AC. I also no longer have my unlimited wifi, so I booked the hotel, booked a Bolt (like Uber) at a coffee shop, and then left the wifi zone.

I show up at the hotel, and they are surprised.

Then I log into their wifi and see I have a message. We have no rooms; please cancel; that was a bit late. I told the woman I could go to another place.

I apologized for not seeing the message, but then she spoke with someone and said, we will fix a room for you, no problem.

It is not the room I booked and is more expensive. I said I did not want to pay more and I can leave. Then I messaged the owner, as the woman there did not understand me well.

He said I could stay there for the same price, just leave a good review; I said of course and thanked him.

It is a huge apartment used for when the owner comes to stay, so they furiously cleaned, and I am now lying on a massive sofa with the AC blasting, which, to me, is just fine.

So I agree the universe was talking to me; between being on the verge of tears multiple times today, I am happy I listened to her. She knew exactly what I needed even before I did.

I will be inside until I turn into an icicle.
