Trauma Teacher, Yoga Therapist
Help me finish what I started

Trauma teacher, yoga therapist,
I’ve stored secrets in my hips
that I thought were forgotten.
With one gentle breath,
you’ve uncovered them,
the painful truths
for you to comfort,
to heal the hurts,
soothe the wounds,
and return the trust
I thought I lost.
O’ trauma teacher, yoga therapist,
please show me the way,
help me transition
from one moment to the next —
open me up to the sun,
make my warrior steadfast
and strong.
O’ trauma teacher, yoga therapist
raise my heart to the sky,
restore the balance to my shaky legs,
and keep my arms straight and long.
Help me endure the distractions
that lead me from my drishti,
and enable me to persevere
with confidence and grace
to finish what I started.
Take me to my final pose.

Note: My yoga practice has meant so much to me—physically, spiritually, and mentally. It has helped me through several critical life transitions, from divorce to being single, from the East to the West Coast, from single to married again, and from therapist to writer. Yoga has helped me deal with traumatic events in my life and enabled me to evolve and flourish.
