Tradition and Food All at Once

Day of the Dead is here with all its delicious glory

Photo by Marco Samaniego on Unsplash

November just came and other than Thanksgiving…the Day of the Dead is here! November 1st and 2nd are times in which we remember those who were once with us but have unfortunately left. A unique tradition I must say but I love it, we celebrate what they left behind…those lovely memories.

You can’t go through this festivity without its food. The main activity to do these days is to create an offering. In this offering, you can add all the yummy foods/drinks/candy that the deceased loved. It can be anything!

One specific cuisine element that you can find these days is the “Pan de Muerto” aka the Bread of the Dead. Yes, we love to celebrate death. This tradition has been seen to come all the way from prehistoric times and to this present day, it still remains and is such an important food.

As the years have gone by, cooks have experimented with the flavors. It first started with a piece of simple bread, then sugar was added and now…you can see all sorts of delicious variants. From the traditional ones to the ones that have different types of fillings. My favorite has chocolate in the middle.

I have always loved this savory bread because it also even resembles…bones. Like I say, it's an artistic bread.

So if you have the opportunity to visit Mexico these days, wherever you go, you will be able to see these tasty treats. I really recommend this iconic bread!

This prompt is for all the foodies! Every country has its own traditions and therefore its own delicious treats. Do you have any different types of foods that you would like to share?
