Towers

A satirical poem inspired by a visit to San Gimignano

Photo by Shalev Cohen on Unsplash

Men will raise towers that reach for the clouds. They represent powers that make some men proud! Didn’t you know?

And women raise flowers from bountiful seeds that burst forth when showers engorge them — they’re freed! This we all know.

But how many seeds make one flower grow? One bloom for a million seeds that we sow? Does anyone know?

In every direction, wherever we go, our finest erections will put on their show. But what do I know?

Yet I’ve wondered for hours how towers and flowers exploit their powers to keep us in tow. How far will they go?
