Top Basketball Player from Liberty University to Transfer Due to Racial Insensitivities from Leadership

Liberty University, an evangelical Christian school in Virginia, is losing it’s best basketball player.

Sophomore Asia Todd who plays guard on Liberty University Women’s basketball team announced on a Twitter video post that she was leaving due to ‘racial insenstivites’ from leadership.

In the post Asia says that her decision has nothing to do with the coaching staff, teammates, or program.

“Due to the racial insensitivities shown within the leadership and culture it simply does not align with my moral compass or personal convictions, therefore I did what I felt was best within my heart and stand up for what is right.”

Her decision comes shortly after three dozen black alumni denounced the University’s president Jerry Falwell Jr.’s controversial tweet about Democratic Governor’s Ralph Northam’s past with blackface.

Jerry Falwell Jr. has since apologized for the tweet but not has not responded to requests for comments for this story.

Asia Todd is not the first person to leave as Dr. Christopher House, an online instructor with the School of Communication and The Arts, has resigned and posted his resignation letter via Faceook.

“As an African American man and Christian pastor, I am horrified and appalled that the president of the largest Christian university in the world would knowing and intentionally use images that evoke a deep history of racial terror of people of color in the U.S., specifically individuals who look like me, for the purposes of making a political statement to the Governor of Virginia.”
