7 Bizarre Job Market Myths You Still Believe In
#5 Employer is afraid of women
The job market is one of the most mythologized. An incredible amount of lies are built around it, not just lies but real self-deception.
It is beneficial for people to blame unfortunate circumstances, the situation in the country, the end of the world, and whatever else. And if something supports their defeatist philosophy, they cling to this straw and shout:
“Yes! Yes! I’m unhappy! Everything is very difficult! It’s scary to live!”
However, the reality is completely different from the garbage that clogged people’s heads. And now we will take out this garbage.
1. There Is No Job
It is pretty easy to get a job in a big city.
Because nobody wants to work hard.
Economics is running high, but great employees are in short supply.
HR departments are constantly looking for new employees and cannot find suitable candidates for months. Everyone is extremely lazy and blockhead, and also “stress-resistant, sociable and easy to learn”, yeah.
The situation is worse in the smaller towns. So moving out to a bigger city gonna boost your career. But still, the demand for motivated workers is as high as possible everywhere.
Also, do not forget about remote work, which opens up a whole ocean of new opportunities.
2. You Need the Experience to Get a Job
Well, to some degree this is true…
But the only experience that matters is your interview experience. A couple of live interviews + research online, and you know what to say and how to behave.
You do not need job experience. You need to convince the HR and Manager that you gonna bring value.
For the beginner, fire in the eyes is more important than any skill and knowledge.
It is more profitable to raise a specialist inside the company than to look for him in the market.
Of course, you won’t make lots of money in the first 6–12 months. But it isn’t your goal at the very beginning. You only need to choose the sphere in which you want to grow further.
In a year you can easily change a job to a better one.
3. It Isn’t That Bad Here
Some people are afraid of change and new. They easily get attached to any nonsense, and stability, for them, even if imaginary, is above all.
Their motto is — “It’s good enough. Why should I change anything?”
I sincerely wish them good luck!
Because luck is the only thing that can help them with such an attitude towards life.
Such a mindset will never let you grow and develop. You will never reach new picks in your life.
Play while the game continues. Don’t stop and limit yourself with “stability.”
4. Moving Is Difficult
It could be true hundreds of years ago when the most advanced transport was a cart. But being serious about the complexity of moving now — ridiculous.
The price of moving to the big city consists of a cheap hostel and basic food. That’s all you need while you are interviewed 24/7 and until you get a job.
No money? Then go and earn some in the nearest coffee shop. But please don’t buy an iPhone then. Use them to invest in your future.
5. Employer Is Afraid of Women
The main reason is “the Women will go on maternity leave”.
Pretty sexist, huh?
Such ideas are very unpopular nowadays. The risk of scandal and, I hope, morality stop most companies from doing such nonsense.
Yeah, there is a small number of companies that still worry about this. Luckily the solution is simple. Say while interviewing that you are not planning children, even if you are planning ;) Easy peasy.
In general, there are often even more girls than men in companies. There are only two things that matter: your reliability and your ability to generate profit.
The problem is that both men and women do not believe that high-paying jobs can be found. Make a resume somehow. Do not analyze the market and do not specify their skills for a specific vacancy.
6. Good Jobs Only Come from Corruption
This one is really amusing. Perhaps, it is part of the Soviet Union’s mental legacy that still exists in my country. It was a completely corrupted environment, after all.
Maybe I gonna shock you with the following words, but…
Money rules the world.
It is that simple. None businessmen will hire a useless employee on purpose. The employee must bring value to the company.
The company needs money, and you are potentially the one who gonna bring them.
Only reliable and persistent employees generate money for the business. So only they matter.
There is no point in paying someone without the necessary skills or motivation. So don’t worry, you won’t get ignored because someone paid for this job.
7. You Can’t Change Sphere or Company
You can change your job. Actually, you should do it from time to time.
Experience in different spheres and positions only makes you better. It can come in handy both in career and in business.
Also, it is easy enough. You can learn a new profession in 3 months.
I don’t talk about STEM professions. They require more time and effort. But switching from marketer to sales manager can be done almost at the snap of fingers. The more general expertise, the easier it is to learn it.
There are thousands of courses on the Internet. Many of them are free and effective. It’s harder to find both free and effective, but still possible.
Same with the changing company. It’s even easies when you come to a new company from the old one with appropriate experience.
Final Thoughts
Don’t be afraid of false myths. You can get your dream job.
Just take personal responsibility for your life and take action.
