Top 5 Software Testing YouTube Channels

A dispatch from the desk of a manual tester

9 months ago, I made a career change from a Lifestyle and MarTech writer, to a Technical writer.

As expected, the transition wasn’t easy and I found myself online and on YouTube, looking for other software testers and technical writers. I was trying to learn as much as I could about Technical writing in one month. The major problem at that time was the lack of knowing where to start especially for one with no coding experience.

I looked at Postman, Swagger, Apiary and Github as places to start, but I had no projects that I could practice on.

Amruta Ranade

My first YouTube search landed me on Amruta Ranade’s channel.

She breaks down the kind of documentation a technical writer is expected to write (UI docs, developer docs and deployment docs), and how to work with developers and software testers for effective documentation.

Since user or software testing is the first step in technical writing, I recommend her channel to manual software testers and technical writers who are new to the industry.

I’d Rather Be Writing

While they don’t have a lot of content on their YouTube channel, they compensate for it on their blog.

I started consuming their content at Amruta’s recommendation and I love how they index their articles on their site. While it’s content majors in technical writing as opposed to software testing, users will find the content to be a book of sorts, that provides an in-depth view of the tech industry, tech roles and how they interact with the QA aspect of software development.

Edureka

According to Edureka, Software testing is defined as an activity to check whether the actual results match the expected results and to ensure the software system is defect-free.

This channel teaches software testers on:

  • SLDC (Software Development Life Cycle) and its models.
  • Software testing lifecycle.
  • Defect management process.
  • Automation testing and
  • Software testing levels and documentation.

They also offer technical training and have courses on Kubernetes, AWS, Ethical hacking, DevOps and Data Science. Most of these courses are free. I’m currently studying for AWS certification and I’m finding their courses helpful in understanding AWS Cloud Infrastructure and preparing for the AWS exam.

Software Testing Help

This channel has videos, courses and resources on manual and automated testing. These courses are curated with the consumer in mind. By consuming these instructor-led videos and courses, software testers move from basic testing knowledge to deeper testing knowledge.

They also have websites such as this one and this one in the same name for those who prefer written content.

I’d recommend this channel to software testers looking to move from manual testing to automated testing.

Mukesh Otwani — Let’s Automate

Mukesh Otwani’s YouTube Channel offers insight for software testers that have moved from manual testing to automated testing. His channel focuses on automation tools such as Selenium Webdriver, TestNG, Maven, Appium, Sikuli, AutoIT, Jenkins, Git, Github and RPA.

I come from a marketing background with no coding experience and I mostly focus on manual testing in agile development and testing. However, If I decided to learn automated testing, his channel would be one of my go-to YouTube Channels as it has a wide variety of automation tools.
