The author, who has recently begun studying NLP, enthusiastically recommends a practical guide called "How to Take Charge of Your Life: The User's Guide to NLP" by Richard Bandler and others. The article details three NLP exercises: visualizing positive experiences to increase energy and mood, reducing the impact of negative memories through desensitization, and reversing the physical sensation of worry to alter emotional responses. Neuro-linguistic programming hacks for a better life

NLP is the neuro-linguistic programming, psychological part, and approaches that were developed in the 70s to make a new view on peoples’ problems and look for solutions to them.

Several months ago I started learning NLP and got really excited about it. The main goal of it is to learn us to solve our problems by looking for solutions, but not the source of the problem. For example, better think about how I can become healthier and what I should start doing and what I should stop doing. Instead of thinking about why I’m unhealthier.

There are a lot of examples of it. I must underline the book where I found this advice and then I’ll write about them. Here is really amazing book I’d like everyone to read, it’s not big and really practical

  1. Increase Good and Bright Memories

Lesson number one and most important is to remember something good and really cool event in our life when we felt really good and amazing. When our emotions were at the top level. This approach gives us feel ourselves with a big amount of energy and a great mood for anything we’d like to do.

The practice looks like this.

  • Close your eyes
  • Imagine a big movie screen
  • Remember some bright moment in your life when you felt really good
  • Start this moment as a movie or static picture on the big movie screen
  • Make sound louder, picture brighter
  • Try to feel this movie and emotions you receive
  • Find a place in your body where you have this amazing feeling
  • Look for your body and track this energy movement direction
  • Try to repeat this practice 2–3 times. And every time try to speed up this body feeling

After you do this practice take a look at your feeling. Feeling better?)

2. Decrease Bad and Worrying Memories

Lesson number two tells us about a similar thing, but about bad memories. About something that makes you worry. In case we decrease that feeling and make ourselves calmer we’ll get more benefits for our mental health and real outcome for any today or future event.

The practice looks like this.

  • Again close your eyes
  • Imagine a big movie screen
  • Remember some bad moment in your life or something that makes you worry
  • Start this moment as a movie or static picture on the big movie screen
  • Turn the sound down, picture colorless
  • Move this movie screen from you far and far. Until this picture will become really small like a point
  • Try to repeat this practice 2–3 times. And try to mix it with the practice from the first lesson above

Again take a look at your feeling. Do you feel better now?

3. Reverse movements of your bad feelings inside your body

It’s a similar practice to the previous two. It’s about how to change your feeling about something bad or something you worry about.

The practice looks like this.

  • Close your eyes
  • Think about something that makes you worry
  • Try to understand what you feel physically
  • Find a place in your body where you have this feeling
  • Track movement of this feeling. Where it starts and where it ends
  • Now try to reverse this movement
  • Move your feeling from where it ended before and to the place where it started
  • Repeat current exercise 2–3 times

How do you feel now?

NLP is a really powerful tool and incredible science that gives us new approaches and tools to think and look at life. I like it very much and hope you get these benefits for you as well!

Let’s feel amazing and live really cool life!
