YouTube can teach you anything. No, really. My last article about educational YouTube channels got a lot of positive comments, so I decided to share some more YouTube gems, specifically for developers. When I was studying software development, YouTube was usually the first place I would go to. Same with the design. Anytime I realize that a button I created looks tolerable at best, I always find a nice YouTube tutorial that helps me to fix it. Yes, I’ll definitely need to share some amazing UX/UI design channels with you next time.
Here are the best YouTube channels both for beginners and experienced developers I would highly recommend:
1. freeCodeCamp.org
As I already mentioned, a freeCodeCamp website is one of the best places for beginners. Besides a wide array of free courses on virtually any topic you can think of, they also have a great YouTube channel with educational videos.
2. mycodeschool
Algorithms, data structures, fundamentals of C programming language… this guy is a real lifesaver, especially if you are in the middle of learning the CS basics.
I seriously admire this guy for his creative approach to coding tutorials. Some of his videos are focused on fundamentals of computer programming (variables, conditionals, iteration, functions & objects) using JavaScript, while others cover algorithmic art, machine learning, simulation, generative poetry, coding challenges, and more. If you’ve been thinking about starting a fun personal project for a while, this channel will definitely inspire you to try new things!
4. Web Dev Simplified
This channel might be not as big as others but I would say it’s a great starting point for beginners who are interested in full-stack web development.
5. Python Programmer
Ok, let's forget about JavaScript for a second. Giles McMullen-Klein is a very charismatic and smart guy who constantly shares his favorite books, resources, Python tips, and tricks. He is a physicistwho has been using Python as a scientist for years, so he definitely has a lot to share.
Another amazing chancel for web developers from the creators of an amazing CSS Tricks website. In addition to HTML, CSS, and JavaScript articles, they post a lot of great design tips.
7. Derek Banas
Derek covers a lot of interesting topics, from gaming and psychology to 3D design and machine learning. He also creates videos based on viewer’s requests and uploads new material daily.
8. LearnCode.academy
This channel covers essential topics for new web developers, from the web developer roadmap to the newest JavaScript libraries. You won’t see a lot of foundational videos here, but if you need to learn a new library, LearnCode.academy has some great content to offer.
9. Eli The Computer Guy
Eli specializes not in coding tutorials but in cyber security lectures, hacking tips, and other curious topics you won’t see often. He also interviews other people in the industry from time to time.
10.Coding Dojo
And finally, a channel I love for coding question overviews, data structures, algorithms, and just inspirational videos like this one:
Thanks to my previous article, I got a lot of great recommendations and found some amazing YouTube channels I’ve never heard of. So if you know great channels for developers, please feel free to add them in the comments below!
