Top 10 Women Musicians That Will Save Rock and Roll

These modern women rockers put the men to shame…

Throughout the 50s-90s, rock and roll was dominated by men. We had the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Queen, and so on. A few women such as Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Blondie, Heart, and Lita Ford had a presence, but it was the men that ruled the day. Today that is all about to change as the music world has a whole host of amazing female guitar, bass, and singers inspiring others to pick up instruments and rock. The ladies below are my personal picks. They all rock hard and are putting the men to shame.

Lzzy Hale from Halestorm

Lzzy Hale has an unbelievable voice. See puts Bruce Dickenson, Rob Halford, and Robert Plant to shame. Her voice cuts through like a razor, and she handles any song that you throw at her. It has been a long time since I have heard a singer as good as she is. Lizzy is also no slouch on the guitar, too. If you want to hear hard edge rock and metal, then Halestorm is where it is at. She has a big career ahead of her as a rock and roll queen.

Taylor Momsen from Pretty Reckless

if you have seen How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey in 2000, you know who Taylor Momsen is. She is all grown up now and embarking on a new career. What career it is as she is now the lead singer of the rock band Pretty Reckless. Taylor has an old-school sound but combines modern music in her style as well. The Pretty Reckless has a lot going for them, and their music rocks pretty damn hard. If you want to hear good old rock and roll with modern touches, give the Pretty Reckless a listen.

Samantha Fish

Samantha Fish absolutely blows me away. She has a command of the electric guitar that would make greats like Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page hide in the corner. She plays soulful and tasty licks that sing when she plays. She is at home with blues classics and rockers and has a touch of jazz to her sound. She has a great voice and an amazing attitude. A guitar has never sounded better when she gets ahold of it. If you love solid guitar playing, Samantha has that in store for you.

Laura Cox

I found Laura Cox on Youtube when she started to post her guitar solos and to play. She has total command of that old-school rock sound in the vein of an AC/DC or Aerosmith. She has formed her own band and taken her YouTube music on the road as she embarks on what is sure to be a great career. She is another clear example of the hard-rocking women that are out there playing the guitar.

Sophie Lloyd

Sophie Lloyd is a young shredder that will remind you of the 80s heyday when hard rock and metal was king. She plays blistering guitar, including many advanced guitar techniques. She has a great personality, and her music is mind-blowing. She posts her own composition and many killer covers songs on her channel. She has her own EP now, and her YouTube fame is sure to follow her.

Tal Wilkenfeld

Tal has total command over the bass guitar. She has opened for the Who and played tracks with Herbie Hancock, The Allman Bros, and guitar great Jeff Beck. She plays rock, jazz fusion, funk, and many other styles. She began playing at age 14 and is now on the top of her game. She also plays guitar and sings. Her new album is called Love Remains. If you love bass guitar, you will be blown away by Tal Wilkenfeld.

Joanna Connor

Joanna has been playing music since the 1980s, and she should be a household name. Her main focus is blues-based music, but she can rock out and plays one hell of a mean slide guitar. She has multiple albums under her name, and if you haven't heard her, I suggest you take a good listen. She deserves far more attention than she gets.

Sadie Johnson

Sadie has played guitar since she was 6, and it shows in her incredible style. She plays with her current group, the Sad Sam Blues Band. She is still young, and her command over the guitar will only grow. She has an attitude to rule the stage and makes that guitar sing like all the old masters.

Nita Strauss

Nita currently plays with Alice Cooper. She is a modern shredder and even has her own signature guitar. She was the guitar player for the Iron Maidens, an Iron Maiden cover band where she got the recognition she deserves for her blazing guitar chops. She is now in the limelight with Cooper. She has branched out and released her own album. Her playing is in the hard rock and fast-metal style. If you like this type of thing, she has you covered.

Malina Moye

Whenever I hear Malina Moye, I think about Jimi Hendrix and Prince, two of the greats. She has a mastery over the Stratocaster and always blows me away when she plays. Today, young people need inspiration, and they should look to this young black woman as her guitar playing is absolutely outstanding. Music is alive when she is up there. Listen to her inspirational video, Enough.

So the guys need to step it up. These ladies are total masters and showing that women can rock just as hard as the boys. I’m proud of them and what they have accomplished. Now, go give them a listen and be as blown away as I am with their killer playing!
