TOP 10 Twitter Accounts for Keeping Pace with GenAI

During my first lecture for the Introduction to Data Science class I teach at UCLA, I warned my students of the accelerated pace at which the field of generative AI is advancing. As a rapidly moving target most people, even the most experienced data scientists find it difficult to stay ahead of the technology. I recounted how a colleague of mine commented that after he returned from a 2-week holiday, he felt hopelessly behind with all the happenings during his absence. I gave the students some advice from my personal attempts to ward off imposter syndrome.

One technique is to carefully and regularly follow a select handful of active Twitter (sorry, I can’t bring myself to call this social media platform “X”) accounts that seem to post the most compelling and timely news briefs. The accounts I list below, in no particular order, consistently offer news items centered around the most prominent movers and shakers in the industry. The focus is on new technology including the latest LLMs, and GenAI applications, in addition to the most relevant new research papers. As an academic researcher myself in a previous life, I find the help sifting through the flow of papers released to arXiv.org every month to be particularly helpful and time saving. The number of AI papers on arXiv per month grows exponentially with doubling rate of 24 months.

Number of arXiv papers published per month in the categories cs.AI, cs.LG, cs.NE, and stat.ML

In actuality, I follow many more people and companies than the ten below, but I carefully went through my Twitter Following list and picked out the ones I depend on the most for my top 10. Please feel free to evaluate the others by going to my Twitter account and peruse my Following list. Enjoy!
