Tom Cruise Climate Change Disaster Blockbuster

So this dream was another in a long line of dreams that could essentially be a movie, which is the only reason to add it here.

I woke up in the middle and fell right back asleep again so I only remember a fragment of it but I can say it was a blockbuster type — high quality, some nice set pieces, good acting from Cruise, etc.

Of course there were some unresolved bits as what I had was essentially a fragment of a longer dream so unsure how it would have resolved, but the genre of movie this dream was obviously in is not known for its creativity so I think it is pretty foreseeable what would happen. One thing was I was evidently aware this was a dream — which usually only happens when I am scared.

The dream is set in the near future, in a world recognizably like ours but more climate-disastery.

Tom Cruise is an analyst from the EPA sent to investigate/report on a recent Hurricane Katrina like event in an area that I think was not New Orleans but might have been (I’ve never been to New Orleans, I just mean that I didn’t hear the name of the place so…)

When he arrives he is met by a pretty young blond, I suppose she will turn out to be the potential love interest, she’s got that wholesome prettiness thing going on. She is not a strawberry blond, but almost. She has a rounded face, with a bang cut. I think I might have seen her in something before. She was kind of a young Meg Ryan, but a rounder face. And maybe a hint of freckles.

There is a large task force, base of people cleaning up the left-over messes from the disaster, she is guiding him around and he gets right to business with questions about what happened on ‘that night on the bridge’, his questions are the lead in to her flashbacks.

There were a lot of people crowded onto a suspension bridge being buffeted by high winds, rain and high waves splashing over the top. It was a very disaster movie scene, blue toned light, people running on top of people, men fighting the elements but also each other because so much testosterone! In a desperate bid for survival.

Hoo-hah! Even if Jerry Bruckheimer was to be taken by god tomorrow, I wouldn’t worry because I’ve still got my dreams.

I mean the guy has evidently conquered and settled a significant part of my memetic landscape, I should sue for damages. Why do I assume there are damages, well this dream made me feel stupider as I was dreaming it, given I was aware it was a dream.

Anyway, evidently they could not get off the bridge, they were being held there for reasons unclear and by people unknown in the flashback. I remember thinking about the production values of this part of the dream as being very good, and thinking the term production values somewhat ironically as of course dreams don’t really have production values.

So, a lot of people died on this bridge and this will be one of the things that will be important in the investigation that Cruise is doing. At least this is what the scene setting, and acting, and dialog all imply, who knows, I didn’t actually get that far.

The pretty girl doing the flashbacking was present on the bridge so she survived, and she seemed somewhat evasive about who did things or what happened — thus, by the rules of this kind of genre there is some sort of conspiracy going on that Cruise will need to get to the bottom of.

But unfortunately this is where I woke up, the garbage trucks were coming to pick up our bins — felt very apt given they also took this dream away.

I was really tired and fell back asleep right away, so if I had any more of the dream I don’t remember. I guess it was lucky that I woke up at all, to remember the dream, if we want to consider it lucky. I think I would rather have woken up in a more interesting dream, but it was interesting enough. The dream I had just before waking up for breakfast the next morning was about going to prison, now that’s boring!
