A Token by its definition means, “a thing serving as a visible or tangible representation of a fact, quality, feeling, etc.”. Most of us have received some form of a token during our lifetimes. The token could be a small gift, a thank you from someone or a token of appreciation. A token could be a metal piece with a number on it when you have lined up for something.

A metal or paper token with a number on it could be the one that a person receives at the medical center when they need to form a queue with the other patients. A token could be handed out to people lined up to see the rock star musician, the Speaker of great repute, or a music group who has come to perform on stage.

Every writer who creates his or her literary pieces is creating tokens that he or she sends out to the world to read and enjoy in the form of articles, stories, blog posts, or poems. How is a writer’s work considered to be a “token”? In my opinion, a writer’s literary piece is a token as it represents the writer’s mind, imagination, and creativity.

A writer’s mind is vast and endless like the universe. A writer’s mind draws inspiration from his or her subconscious mind. The creative mind is like the tip of the iceberg that is seen above the waters and ice, while the major part of the mind is submerged in the subconscious waters of the universe.

Therefore, I feel that every writer who produces a literary piece is giving a “token”, of his or her imagination and creativity, presented in the form of an article, story, novel, or poem. The next time that you publish an article or a story, just keep in mind that what you are sending out to the world of readers, followers and other writers to enjoy is a token of your creative mind and imagination.

Your tokens of creativity and imagination, are your legacy that you give to the world of readers to enjoy. Every book or article that you create is infused with your unique style, voice, and presentation and it is your literary token. As a writer respect the work of other creators, artists, and writers, knowing that you are enjoying the privilege of looking into their minds of imagination and creativity, as you view, read and enjoy the gift of the creative tokens, they have gifted to the world.
