Today is the First Story of the Rest of My Life…

The new beginning!

When I joined Medium and started writing, I thought to myself, “piece of cake.” I already write a good bit, and I write online most of the time. “So, what’s the big deal?”

I tossed up a couple of articles (stories) from time to time, and really enjoyed Medium.

Success Stories

I also read a lot of other writers’ stories, some of them about nice successes.

I am a visual learner and measurer. I have become the type who sees success as a bar graph or spreadsheet. You know, a businessman guy.

I realized that here, I could measure cause and effect, somewhat as I had thought of sales. I don't believe in accidents. Blessings, yes, accidents, no.

At one point I decided to experiment with writing more frequently to measure what would happen. Then in a crazy moment, I considered writing weekly or even daily.

Within a short period of time, I realized, “this is pretty hard!”

I realized I didn't know where all these stories were going to come from.

Then I asked myself where any story comes from.

Everything is a story

Everything is a story or the beginning of a story.

“How are you today? BANG! Story.

“What did you do at school today?” BANG! Story.

“Why did you not finish your homework?” BANG! Story.

And stories have useful lives with no expiration dates. “Now stop me if you've heard this one.” Or war stories that ALL start with the words, “now this is no sh**…”

Stories are everywhere. They beg to be explained. They beg to be exposed

It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it.

At any rate, this you are reading is my Medium story number 101, the start of a whole new chapter.

My next goal

I am on to my next goal, no longer wondering where the stories will come from, but now only how to choose the next one and how to treat it best.

I may tell you a story about a subject I know a lot about. Or one I am studying to learn about. or I may be just having fun with it.

But whichever, it is with great excitement and anticipation that I welcome you to the next month and my next story goal of 150. I promise not to harp on my progress constantly. But I won't let you forget it when it happens either.

So, have a great story, and stop me if you've heard this one.
