Today, I Met A Twisted Tree
Six Word Photo: “Freestyle”
That grew its own way: matchlessly
It’s early spring and I’m walking through One Tree Hill Woods, a National Trust woodlands in Sevenoaks, Kent. After an hour or so, I happen upon this unique old tree.
While there were younger bucks in the wood: straighter, taller, wider in girth, with stronger, more muscular branches and broader canopies, none had the craggy character of this one.
Tired looking? A little ‘bowed in the back’? Perhaps. And with limbs that had seen better days. But of all the trees I’d seen up to this point, none ‘spoke’ to me like this one.
What really grabbed my interest was the way the light landed on its twisted trunk. It was as if this tree was saying, “I didn’t compromise. I found my own way to grow and attract the light.”
Maybe a lesson for us all.
